I thoroughly enjoyed Midsommar. My teenage daughter has a taste for trippy and gruesome folk horror, and she is trying to get me to go and see In The Earth with Reece Shearsmith that came out a few months ago.

Anyone else seen this? Seriously weird, like The Wicker Man on acid Midsommer was good. A Swedish Wicker Man, but nothing wrong with that. The cliff scene was pretty intense! There's a new Cillian Murphy short out soon which is supposed to be good. Set in a post-apocalyptic world.

I met Ingrid Pitt from the Wicker Man at a horror movie convention at the NEC years ago. She was with Caroline Munro, the Lambs Navy Rum girl. I think I just stood staring for a minute unable to think what to say before shuffling off.
The was a remake of the excellent Wicker Man a few years back with Nic Cage. Man it was awful. Thankfully though they re released the original with the cut footage as well, Whenever I stayed in hotels in Scotland I never got room service like Willow knocking on the wall asking if I need anything

What a looker she was - I think I must have seen The Golden Voyage of Sinbad at an impressionable age and something changed within me ...

Is that a Ben Wheatley film by any chance? He made one with Reece Shearsmith which was trippy, set during the English Civil War. A Field in England I think it was called. Nic Cage riding a bike in a bear costume didn't carry the same gravitas as the end of Midsommar 😀

I saw it at the cinema, hugely entertaining horror. When those old bints start walking off the cliff side!

I think it was all too much being 5ft away from her in person The singer of the Flying Pickets was behind me in the queue to meet her I remember for some reason. Odd mix of folk Attachment Deleted

Here you go (bit of an "arty" one, so may not be for everyone)
Midsommar's a decent film though. Only issue was that i found it hard to have empathy for the female lead re: her boyfriend being a knobhead. It's pretty clear after about 10 minutes that he's your typical "high school jock that's never grown up" arsehole, so the fact he goes on to cheat on her and it devastates her i wasn't really arsed about. I just thought she (as a character) was far too bright and mature to relistically end up with a cockend like him anyway, so if she insists on being with him, fuck her, it's her own look out.
The cliff scene is quite disturbing though.

I'll give that other film a go, I've not seen anything with Cillian Murphy in I haven't liked

I couldn’t figure if this was one of those high art culture films that is too clever by half or if it was taking the piss out of high art culture films that are too clever by half.
Either way I thought it was as dull a film as I’ve seen since the excruciating Mother!
