It's been carnage so far.
Riders out
Stage 1 Sutterlin Konovalovas Lemoine
Stage 2 Soler - didn't start
Stage 3 Ewan Haig Gesink
Today "should" in theory be another sprint finish today - I'm going for Cav.

I think Demare is going to win a stage in this Tour but I'll stick with Cav for today (probably just for nostalgic reasons to see him competing at this level again).

The route is a lot less involved than yesterday but I’d imagine that there will be even more tension today for some. With Ewan out some of the teams who would have been pleased with a top 3 in a sprint will probably be under pressure to push for first. I’m going to go with Merlier and Demare as first and second. Finish is a very, very slight drag but a straight run in apart from a roundabout at just inside 3km.

Last 250m at 4%, would think that would make Cavendish unlikely although I think he has won on an almost identical finish there before. Would've been perfect for Ewan, but I reckon maybe Colbrelli in his absence.
Cav for the win on Thursday I reckon. If he's not crashed out in the meantime.

I think it will be a matter of holding off and holding off and then really opening up quite late. Maybe 200-150 to go, assuming the finish is the same as the one I watched a clip of earlier. If you end up at the front too early as your teammates have burned out, then I think you’re fucked if you have to lead it out.

Terrific result for Cav - really pleased for him after everything he's been through during the past few years. Not bad having Alaphilippe as your lead out man !

Unbelievable outpouring of emotion there, nearly had me going.
Didn't even look that difficult for him to win. He's not done yet this tour.

Tomorrow's stage 5 is a 27km time trial. Lots of questions over the top riders TT form, and whether Roglic and G will have recovered enough from their stage 3 crashes to post competitive times.
I'm going for Wout Van Aert ahead of Stefan Kung, with Van Aert just gaining enough time to take yellow in GC.

Most incredible result I have witnessed in 50 years of following le tour Cried my eyes out. Well done Cav I watched the Eurosport coverage yesterday and it sounded like Carlton Kirby was crying as well. He usually gets excited at stage finishes but yesterday his voice noticeably cracked at the finish and then there were quite a few seconds of silence which was most unlike him, and he was clearly emotional when he resumed commentating. I have to say I switched off when The Breakaway came on as I can't stand Orla Chennaoui. Looking foward to today's TT.

Wonder how Cav’s climbing legs are? It’s been 5 or 6 years (??) since he finished a GT I think. Given that he’s going for the intermediates he is either honing his sprint on the road (doubtful) or has an interest in the green! On his showing yesterday he looks comfortably quicker than anyone else. All sprints are different etc, etc but that was a dominant victory and I always like idea of a sprinter rather than a points accumulator wearing green in Paris (even though it’s not a sprinters award.)
Agree with what Deeside has said about today in terms of it being a case of assessing how well Roglic and Thomas have recovered. As boring as TT’s often are, it will give a half-decent picture of what’s what at the end of the afternoon. I’ll go with WVA today and Kelderman to continue his invisible man routine and cement himself as a top 5 GC contender.

Brilliant time trial by Pogacar, he's some rider isn't he. Kung so close to winning, and Van Aert sitting nicely in GC. VDP still in yellow but with the mountains to come Pogacar looks the one to beat. G, Carapaz, Roglic and the rest have somehow got to try to make up a lot of time already. Stage 6 tomorrow, it should be one for the sprinters but there could be echelons towards the finish, I'm going for Colbrelli.
Edit: just read an article where ASO say they've made today's finish very twisty and "nervous" for the riders - maybe we can expect more crashes.

Can Cav overtake Merckx in stage wins?
I kind of hope he doesn't really, sprinters get so much help and disappear entirely in the mountain stages, whereas anyone who wins 34 stages and is a GC contender (and winner) is a true legend.

A 30 year old French woman who caused the huge crash on stage 3 has been arrested after she gave herself up at a police station in Landerneau.

Are the sprinters poor this year or is Cav super fit?

Are the sprinters poor this year or is Cav super fit? A bit of both this year I think. I went for Colbrelli today and when he got third inthe intermediate sprint I thought he was looking good for the stage, but Cav blitzed him at the finish. Demare has been a big disappointment as well. I think Ewan would have been right up there as he's been in terrific form this year. Still, great win for Cav, number 32, and now he's got every chance of equalling, or even beating, the all time number of stage wins.

Again really pleased for him. Did wonder if he'd get DQ'd as it looked like he cut up Philipsson?
Definitely think it would have been different had Ewan stayed in the race as he was certainly in the right form.

Stage 7 tomorrow (already !), the longest stage of the Tour (for 21 years) at 249 kms !
It should suit Alaphilippe but I'm going for Omar Fraile of Astana.

I wonder how much freedom he’ll be given though as Lutsenko is going to need him over the weekend. I’ll go for Woods. I reckon that his GC aspirations should give way to trying to win stages. A break which the GC men can keep at around 5 mins would be perfect for him. In other words, it will be a free for all and the break will gain 15 minutes and it will be all Frenchmen in it, desperate to win a stage. Or an intermediate sprint. Or a mountain point. Or anything 😂

Cav brilliant today. Watching him finish brought back so many memories of watching Le Tour, with many friends are who are no longer with us. Before it was televised in the UK we used to catch the train to Dover, with bikes, we would then go by ferry to Calais. Train to chosen location nearest the tour route then cycle to the route. Camp in small ex army bivis then watch the procession come through. Then get to the next location by any means possible. Very little chance of seeing British riders winning, but we loved it. So to Robin, Graham, Garnet, Henry and Rob. Hope you enjoyed that one.

Hopefully Cav can win a few more stages to equal the record, but it would be nice to see him win three more (big ask I know !) to become the all time record holder. I think he's got to do it this year as he's on top form and seems better than the other sprinters. However another year older next year, Cav being out of form/unfit, other riders in form etc, next year might just be too much to ask for him to win another stage.
