It shouldn’t be possible that we have qualified already. What a wanky format. We’ve got a tough game whatever happens. Finish 1st = Germany Finish 2nd = Spain Finish 3rd = ? I'd fancy us against Spain. Germany would have us for Breakfast. For as bad as we were the other day, there isn’t a better time to beat either but Germany still looked to have a lot about them against Portugal. They look dodgy as anything at the back though.

We'll scrape a lucky 1 nil win and the nation will get carried away.

25 min chat in the tunnel. Looks like they could miss the last 16 game too?

The rest of the journos still seem to think they've got a chance of figuring. It would be interesting to see what he'd do with no Mount though. Both players testing negative, yet still the FA orders them to isolate. No better example of what a joke the regulations are. This is sacrificing availability of players for political correctness!

25 min chat in the tunnel. Looks like they could miss the last 16 game too? Chaos seems a stretch. Mount hasn't done a lot so far if anything so this will be a good chance to give the create players behind Kane a bit of a shuffle and hopefully find a better combination, hopefully Sancho gets the nod as it seems nuts to me he hasn't had any mins.

Mount needed dropping anyway really.
He needs to get Sancho in the team.
This talk of inexperience is bullshit.
Him and Bellingham have more experience at a higher level than Phillips and Rice put together and he has no issue playing them.

Problem with finishing 2nd is we face the winners of France/Germany’s group in the quarters (should we get past the last 16) We have to face them at some point if we have any hopes of going far. Earlier the better for me.

I don't get why people get preoccupied with who you're playing next.
You have to beat the good sides to win the tournament at some point.
It's loser talk.

I’d like to see Sancho in for Sterling, Grealish for Mount and Bellingham for Rice or Phillips. Let’s proper go for them.

This appears to be a complete joke - and surely means they're both out of any last 16 game too?

If he goes in with a midfield 3 of Rice, Phillips and Bellingham, that seems very unbalanced

It would be insane Grapey. He has to play Grealish surely? I said yesterday he also needed to get someone alongside Kane and Rashford was my choice, meaning Jack couldn't come in off the left, so play him where Mount was!

Pickford Trippier Stones Maguire Shaw Bellingham Henderson Sancho Grealish Saka/Rashford C-Lewin
Fresh legs up front after how toothless we were last game. I didn’t rate James so would have Tripper in for him and would have kept Shaw regardless of Chilwell. Henderson needs some match fitness and Bellingham is the future.
Whatever team we put out though there shouldn’t be any excuses.

Possibly but I suspect Bellingham would just push up wouldn't he? And Phillips has made way more runs in behind than Kane even in a two. This would give him more freedom for that? It's horribly negative. And totally Southgate.

I'd quite like Sancho in on the right and move Foden into Mount's position.
Doubt it'll happen though

We definitely need some sort of bridge between the functional defence and midfield and the exciting attacking players, but as you say, Phillips seemed capable of doing that against Croatia. I think we need Maguire back in to help with that as well, and he needs to grow a pair and let the full backs push on.

What a shit show this tournament is turning out to be.
On about bringing Henderson and Maguire in now as well. Absolutely no consistency in starting team whatsoever.
Cardinal sins of past England managers:
1. Playing players out of position (square peg, round hole) 2. Not starting with a full strength line-up in the warm-up matches 3. Shoehorning the 'best' players in when unfit
Southgate has now fallen foul of all three.

That was because Scotland pushed their full backs forward. By our full backs staying deep we conceded big parts of the pitch and got pegged back at times. Need to be a bit bolder.

I just don't think we are playing well enough to give the good sides a game. To be honest I don't even think we will win tonight. In the World Cup we seemed to be a much more vibrant, stable outfit who were playing as a team. In this we just seem tired and disjointed.

Surely it was be a 4-3-3 with something like
Pickford Walker/Trippier…..Stones…..Maguire…… Shaw
…….Foden…..Rice/Henderson…Grealish
….Sancho…….Kane………Rashford

I'd be happy with any team which doesn't include Sterling or Rashford in the starting line up, neither of whom have had great seasons. Get them one of them (or both) later if needed, running at tired defenders.
Surely it's time to give Sancho a run out at the very least. Give Kane another chance but if he's still playing like he's running through treacle then get Calvert-Lewin on and not just for the last 10mins.
We aren't going to be good enough defensively to grind out results against the better sides so we need to be getting the most out of our attacking players.
