Did it used to be 'the Gordon' as well ? Someone of more advanced years will have to answer that for you mate I remember it being Charlie Browns when I first started frequenting boozers at the ripe old age of 16/17 Yep, it was The Gordon in the late 70s, ex boxer Pat Brogan had it, we used to pop in for a pint on our Friday night crawl around Stoke.

Used to nip in there in the very early '70's as an under-age drinker before a night movin' an a groovin' at the Kingspin (The Kings Hall for you younger ones.)

I fear this might be the first of many in the area to close its doors. I hope the Staff of Life is still going strong. That's my favourite drinking hole on matchdays. Looks like it is still going www.facebook.com/StaffofLife2015/Brilliant news. Thanks for the info.

There was a Star pub on Liverpool Rd back in the day too. Bikers pub I think... Yeah i remember the Star Bit of a menacing air about the place. The Phoenix across the road was the source of all day sessions and off loading of hooky goods 'obtained' by Chavs from shops around Stoke. I was in the Phoenix one time when a chav literally dropped his trackies in the middle of the room to let all the 'goods' fall out before he offered them to all and sundry. On this particular day he had a Kenny Rogers CD, and a pack of ( formerly anyway), fresh meat. And no, it was not his pork sword.

I remember the barmaids always used to wear over powering perfume as well and bend over in a seductive manner even though they were the wrong side of 50. Great days 😀

Tragic news, my second favourite pre match boozer (after the Black's Head in the 90s)
And so much safer than being squared up to by a fellow Stoke fan, clad in Burberry, in Greenhoff's because you had a southern accent, even though you'd followed Stoke long before they were born! 😕😕😕

You wouldn't have thought that Stoke became a smokeless zone in the fifties! Must be better in these politically correct post "smoking ban" days.

Proper shame - love a pint of Titanic Stout from there. All their stuff is next level when on tap as opposed to bottled/canned.

Remember it as far back as being the Gordon. Early drinking days you tend to remember everything and early season, probs 79/80 everyone in pub was singing "Lionel" but don't know who he was. Think some Chinese folk ran it at one time too.

Miss some of those little pubs mentioned, love little rough holes! Went in the Trent Vale (near Blackheads(!), it had mucky net curtains up and waited ages for someone appear to serve us!

See from Facebook Baby Russetts is also to close ..though thats due to one of the partners recently being diagnosed with cancer and about to start treatment ..good luck to them too Also the council were looking to purchase all of the building on that row as part of regeneration. Not sure if that fell through though. Massive shame regarding the owner, top bloke with top food. Really hope he goes on OK.

Pre match I’ve only ever drank in there once, Boxing Day Manchester City, good God what a day that was🤣🤣🤣
Inflated bananas everywhere and total mayhem as Man City must have brought 10k that day, mostly in fancy dress may I add. Funny as hell watching people dressed as all sorts being chased around Stoke

Terrible news really and possibly the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended) of further closures in this industry. I've noticed recently after the novelty of "opening day", that a lot of pubs have been stoney silent. It's just been TOO easy to get a table and get served. I've not been turned away once or had to sit outside. It's a bad nail in the coffin for Stoke. I remember when the WS opened and it seemed the town was on the up, Covid has turned the clock back terribly.

I hadn't heard about that Yep, through ill health from one of the guys who run it unfortunately, said they just can't continue with the rigors of treatment. So very sad as they are lovely people who put everything into that place. They did something once which no restaurant ever has and sent me a personal email message thanking me for going how how they enjoyed seeing us there.
