That’s a nonsense qualifier. By that stick, Vardy should be in for a shout over the last few years. I truly believe that players should move around to show that they can do it wherever they go to be considered as the best of the best, but it doesn’t have to be in the Premier League, which is rarely more than a two horse race these days. Ok Name me one better player in the world today and one in the past. Maybe maradonna. Obviously Messi. If we're talking all time I'm not sure CR even gets in my top 10.

Cue a long debate between people on one side who believe the original Ronaldo was better and Cristiano isn't fit to lace his boots, and people on the other side who are wrong. I would tend to agree with you. But just imagine the two of them playing in the same team if they were the same age. Would be very concerning for our current back 4

Don't really like Christiano Ronaldo but you can't deny he has been one of the best players ever. No the best player ever. All the others not done it in the prem Plus a world class header of the ball. Messi a great player but not renowned for his heading. CR7 best ever for me - all round excellence. We are lucky to have seen Ronaldo and Messi on the same timeline. And yes, excellence in 3 top leagues.

Why does a player have to have 'done it in the Prem' to be considered the best ever, sorry?

Exactly mate with his heading ability makes him the complete player and also does it regularly with his country whereas messi doesn’t although a great player

Can talk about them all you want But in 2001 I had the pleasure of witnessing a rivaldo hatrick against atletico Madrid The third was a pleasure to behold a bicycle kick Funny how things like that stick in the memory

Why does a player have to have 'done it in the Prem' to be considered the best ever, sorry? Er best league in the world What about Maradona? What about Pele? What about Cruyff? What about Messi? What about Zidane? None of these players, and there are more, ever played in the "best league in the world" so can they not be spoken about as the greatest players of all time or of their time?

Why does a player have to have 'done it in the Prem' to be considered the best ever, sorry? Er best league in the world Largely exaggerated trope now. I wouldn’t say that Burnley were any better than Genoa for example. That Serie A top six are not too dissimilar to the Premier League 6, similarly the top 6 in la liga could finish well in England. The Premier League is the most watched, not because it’s by far the best but because Sky were clever enough to portray it as the best worldwide and spent so much money doing so.

In my opinion the only player who gets close to Messi was Maradona. Then there’s a very small band of almost-best-ever players, into which fall the likes of Pele, real Ron, maybe Ronaldinho. From what I’ve read and seen I’d put Garrincha in there too. After that there’s a whole load of elite players who could make up a top ten such as CR, Zidane, Cruyff, Xavi, Kaka, Socrates, Puskas, Matthews, Best, Danny Collins etc etc

Why does a player have to have 'done it in the Prem' to be considered the best ever, sorry? Er best league in the world Thanks for that Andy Gray. I'm sure Maradona wept hot salty tears that he never got to pit his wits against Francis Benali, and Messi will always wonder if he could have coped mano a mano against Dan Burn.

Probably the most stark difference along with athleticism and mental strength.
