Reading the stories about Stokes interest in Dean Whitehead. Phil Sproson has said that Stoke haven't made any approaches for his client, but Pulis is an admirer. But when it gets to the rabid Sunderland supporting media, it become Whitehead rubbishes move to Stoke etc. As though they are bigging themselves up, no player of ours would rather play for Stoke than us, even if there is no real basis to the story.

And if you look at actual comments to me it looks like Whitehead not wanting to annoy keane any more than he has, i.e. I am still a Sunderland player and am looking forward to the season (please someone come and get me soon) - much like Drogba is doing today when we clearly know he wants out..

True. But I feel that the anti-stoke bollocks being served up in the media may effect our ability to bring players in. The "going to do a Derby", "long ball", yaddah, yaddah, yaddah may deter potential signings from joining us. We all know that we lost the fewest games in the Champ last season, we all know that West Brom did not beat us, we all know that we were the second highest scorers in the division. All of these points are conveniently being ignored by the Stoke hating lazy fat national journalists writing the transfer stories / rumours. I know money talks, but if it's a straight choice between Stoke and Wigan / Fulham / West bagoshite / Bolton they'll probably choose one of the others who haven't had the media bashing that we seem to be getting. The first signing will be the key. That will send out a message of how serious about staying up we are, and how we intend to do it. That's why I'm getting a little impatient for that first signing.
