For anybody who is interested the four iconic towers that have dominated the skyline in Rugeley for many years are coming down.
The demolition is scheduled for Sunday June 6th at 11:00 am
It is being televised on You Tube by Chase TV a local amateur group who also televised the fall of the chimney earlier this year.
Its all a part of the zero carbon emissions initiative.
I saw them go up and will be a little sad to see them come down. It should be quite spectacular as I believe all four will go simultaneously. ⚓️

I watched the Meaford towers getting blown up when I was a kid. I watched it, with a surprisingly big crowd of people from the vantage point of the Stone Downs. It is quite a sight.

I think they are anticipating large crowds in Rugeley.
As the town and PS sits in a valley on the banks of the Trent there are vantage points all around for miles.
I would not get to close down wind . The dust clouds when the chimney came down we’re almost as dramatic as the stack falling!

Rugeley has a lot more!

Rugely has a lot more! Five at Meaford. Four came down in one go and one remained standing, can’t remember if that was part of the plan or a failure somewhere in the demolition.

I (we) used to do the maintenance on the towers for about 6 years before it shut, cracking job it was for about 6/7 weeks every summer, used to be big fish in the water below them, guessing they’ve been moved to the fishing pool there.

They used to call it the survey, I supplied them with parts and breakdown work for the surveys. it would go mad for around 6 weeks

Yeah spot on just had a look, I didn't think there were that many. I was nine when they came down!

I probably shouldn't say blown up, if that happens I guess something has gone seriously wrong.
I can't spell Rugeley either it would appear!

I was 13, I had a sequence of photos I took of the event on my “fancy” compact camera on my bedroom wall for ages

Tomorrow Sunday 06/06 is the big day when the Towers that have dominated the landscape in Mid Staffs come down.
The detonation of all four towers will now happen at 1115am.. originally scheduled for 11, it was realised that this would coincide with a D Day memorial service at the National Arboretum. Although many miles away it would still be heard during the planned two minutes silence. !
The event is being screened on various channels on Facebook and You Tube. The police are urging people to stay away but thousands are expected to converge on Rugeley and surrounding areas.

Late to ask around, I know, but anyone got any indide knowledge of a good spot to view it from?
Roads in the immediate vicinity will be closed obviously. I had a quick faff around on Google Street View looking for a good place to watch from and it was a bit hit and miss as to whether you could even see the towers.
Any recommendations?

Just about anywhere in Rugeley. They dominate the large parts of the town town. This dreary weather may deter a few people.

Well they are gone.
Rugeley and area was jam packed with people and heavy traffic despite the weather.
Loads of videos already on You Tube.
I saw them go up and like many others a little sad to see them come down. ⚓️

Was able to follow the socially distanced crowd to a good spot on a hill and see them come down. Bloke on the radio said that they had given button-pushing honours to a six year old local girl. Thought that was a nice touch. Bet her parents will struggle to top that next weekend!

Don’t believe in coincidences but; I followed a car out of Rugeley heading North with a SCFC sticker in the back window! ?

We walked through a couple of fields following a load of others to a hill not far from the railway station, good few there, got there far too early tho. Glad I watched it, detour to Uttoxeter on the way home for a couple of curries and some bits from Waitrose was a bonus
