479 matches as a player, 460 as a manager.
At the club from 1921 to 1952 unbroken.
Bob McGrory.
Don't know much about him but if ever there was a 'Mr Stoke City' the dour looking Scot was surely it!?

Alfred Edge, George Bateman, Charlie Baker, Hugh Clifford, Tom Robertson, Jim Turner, George Clawley, John Farrell and Tom Hyslop pre 1900. Billy Capewell, Peter Durber, Tom Wilkes, Jim Bradley, Arthur Cartlidge, Mart Watkins, Dickie Roose, Ross Fielding, Lloyd Davies, Albert Pitt, Thomas Coxon, Alf Smith, Jack Benton, Arthur Griffiths, Albert Cook, Bill Williamson, Sid Owen, Amos Baddeley, Fred Rathbone, Arthur Box and Arthur Dyke between 1900 and World War 1. Of course! Arthur Cartlidge! How could I forget? What a name for a footballer though. Asking for a knee injury.

George Eastham had a number of spells going to South Africa in between.
And then as others have said he came back as manager.

Doing a bit of auxiliary googling while listening to the Macari podcast, I realised I'd forgotten Bertie Biggins came back from Celtic for a second spell with us pre-Sheron/Sturridge. Steino also came back on loan of course. Griffin had two spells (well three technically) separated by 8 or ten years, Kenwyne had a less-than-impressive loan spell as a young'un. Seemingly Carlo Nash was with us twice... can't think of any others off the top of my head Carl Muggleton

What about players we should have brought back? Adrian Heath could have returned before he eventually did Chamberlain left Weds (after being ruined by Wilkinson) for Pompey Crooks went to West Brom Stein wanted to re-sign permanently but Coates/Moxey felt the £300k was too high (stupid bastards fee would have been paid many times over with increased gates) Any others we could/should have brought back? I know he's 33 but a Diouf return wouldn't be the worst thing would it? Always felt we made a mistake not trying to get Peter Beagrie back from Man City. He went to Bradford in 1997 and got them promoted to the Premier League a year later. Not being able to get Stein back was a kick in the teeth. He ended up scoring 25 for Bournemouth while we were struggling in the same league under Brian Little.
