Can't have happened before where manager gets sacked just before playoffs start? Their form has been shocking of late and they just about stumbled in with series of 0-0 draws.

If they go up now it would surely be the ultimate new manager bounce

I wonder if any statistical analysis has been done on how form affects playoff performances? You'd think being the form team has to have an effect. I'm thinking specifically of Palace in 03/04 when they were near relegation with us early on, and then they sacked Kember and brought in Dowie and shot up the league. We were both on amazing runs when ours ended with a 6-3 defeat down there, but theirs continued and they won the playoffs. However, that's a sample of 1 so could just be clouding my perception. I'm also thinking it's less uncommon than you'd expect for out of form teams to "click" as a result of the intensity of the playoffs?
Would be very curious to see a study on this topic, although I'm not fucking doing it.

Modern football club owners never cease to amaze me. He joined them in November when they were all over the floor in the bottom half of the table, took them to the EFL Trophy final (lost to teeny tiny no-budget Sunderland) and got them in the play offs. They've had some shaky recent results but in anybody's book Hill's done a good job. Not in their chairman's books though, according to him Hill had to go because of recent results so they have 'the best chance of winning the play offs'. Can't see how that works myself, I hope they get absolutely stuffed in their play off games.

"This is a season which could still yet be shortened due to Covid so we do not have the luxury of time to turn things around." Eh???

Maybe he had a huge promotion bonus in his contract and cheaper to sack him now?
Who knows
People I know who have met the owner reported that the encounter was a vile experience
