The funniest story was about Nello ringing him up while he was on MUTV to put his chippy order in!
Incidentally, Lou's getting his timeline mixed up. Nello did remain at the club when he left for Celtic. The Carruthers underpants and George Andrews stories both came during his second spell. The Andrews "kidnap" was at the last Potteries Derby at the Vic. We managed to get a copy of the photo which we put in the fanzine.

Whereas Lou tried to fatten him up.

Brilliant. The Macari era was a fantastic time to be following our club. Truly brilliant because we had an identity and the team ran its socks off and the manager was. Both direct and engaging

I wonโt repeat it all here, but in the book you can read the hilarious story of when we had to leave for the game very early to get Nello to the ground in time for Joes strict deadline after he had stayed at our house following him visiting Ken Dodd at the Palace theatre in Manchester.

Nello left when Brian Little became manager I genuinely don't remember him being at the club during the first year at the new stadium. Winnie Hudson was kit manager during the first year at the Brit which did make me wonder when Nello left. I'm sure I saw them working together during the last year at the Vic. Listening to her in the below video I'd have probably given Winnie a go as first-team manager after Bates and Kamara left!

By a bizarre co-incidence, I have just had an email from a member of the FA Council to tell me that last Sunday, the canon of Norwich Cathedral base his sermon around what we can all learn from Nello. I don't know what the Canon's connection with Neil is ( if any) but I'll be asking Nello about him tomorrow. Nello and Lou are also appearing in another film, albeit briefly(I think). It's to do with homelessness.Nello tells me he's a bingo caller

That's an interesting clip which I haven't seen before. Winnie worked with Nello for several years. They had one year together at the Brit.before Nello left in 1998. In the book there is a picture of Winnie and Simon Sturridge presenting Nello with his leaving present on the pitch. Nello says that tying up George Andrews was Lou and Winnie's idea. In reality Winnie was the kit manager and Nello was her assistant, with the important extra role of contributing to team morale. As we say in the book, Winnie also looked after Neil if sometimes the players went a bit too far with him ( which happened). I know that Winnie was disappointed that the film portrayed Nello as the kit "manager". That's just the way Peter Bowker decided to write it, but I think we give her due credit in the book.

I love how 'done on the cheap' the Brit looks from that era. The changing rooms look like a low budget council sports centre and the kit is wheeled to and from a bunch of domestic Creda washing machines in a supermarket shopping trolley. Brilliant.
