A complete joke. I can offer no explanation. No justice for the poor girls parents.

Nothing. It is the right sentence.
Where is the merit in sentencing him to an immediate 6 months? He would do 1.5 months before being released on tag.
Surely 120 hours on reparation in the community is preferable.

Surely 120 hours on reparation in the community is preferable. I'm no lawyer but 120 hours community service for killing a child through reckless driving seems a extraordinarily soft to me. We see them all the time driving at daft speeds in residential 30mph areas. They are repeat offenders and it is only ever a matter of time before a child runs into their path and they are unable to react. It will however haunt him to his dying day hopefully, so there is that.

Surely 120 hours on reparation in the community is preferable. Perhaps a custodial sentence would at least be a warning to other criminals out there. 120 hours of community service for taking a life it beggars belief. Just think about it for a moment you're in a 30mph zone, you're coming up to a pedestrian crossing, surely your foot is on the brake especially if there are parked cars and it's a built up area.

Yes, the child ran out in the road without looking but he was speeding. If that were my Daughter, then this cunt would simply disappear - never to be seen again.

It will however haunt him to his dying day hopefully, so there is that. We've had all been guilty of speeding. Everyone single one of us. Some at worse speeds than others. We have all got home safely. The combination of his speed and the child running into the road is tragic. We've all seen the 40 kills, 30 doesn't adverts but we still speed. The judge applied the sentencing guidelines. That gave 6 months. The Judge then has to consider whether the sentence can be suspended and decided it could. There were then punitive sanctions applied. You could argue 200-300 (maximum amount) hours might have been justified but the Judge thought not. It's a very difficult sentencing exercise.

47mph in a 30 is probably a fairly common occurrence. It's a fucking awful situation. The bloke is probably a decent member of the community but how is it fair that a father loses his daughter and the killer escapes jail.
Very sad.

Too many people drive around like pricks.
You see it all of the time.
It’s amazing how much we normalise pedestrian deaths from motor cars.

25 years minimum causing death by reckless driving. So your grandad reverses out of a space and knocks over an old lady who dies. I can really see you clamouring for him to be sentenced to 25 years minimum.

We normalize speeding though No. I think we make excuses for speeding. We all know that speeding is wrong but we constantly mitigate with excuses, a bit like parking in a disabled bay when "running to the cash point".

If I were the parents I'd be looking at other similar cases and see what sentences have been handed out, and if it turns out that Mr Onubogu has been treated lightly I'd demand a review.

Nobody dies from parking in a disabled space. Apart from the unwell man unable to get to where he needs to be. I'm not saying you are wrong, but we make excuses. Nobody sits there going "speeding is ok". We simply make excuses for the fact people continue to do so. Leave ten mins earlier. Drive at the speed limit.

Piss's me off when some try to justify dangerous/reckless driving that leads to a death an accident, he' taken away a child's life through his criminal behaviour FFS.

You can't lock him away and throw away the key though. You're suggesting punishing him for the consequences rather than the actions themselves. If he was off his tits, then fine I would agree.

Well let's just end something now. His driving wasn't dangerous. So why was there a 30 limit...for a laugh...or because 30 was deemed the safe limit. Opposite of safe...dangerous...case closed It's strange isn't it the justification on here for speeding as if we all do 47 mph in a 30 mph residential area approaching a pedestrian crossing with slow makers on the road. 33 in a 30mph area is unfortunate, 47 in a 30mph zone is reckless but when you add in the housing and the crossing it's criminal behaviour, an accident waiting to happen. Perhaps we have idiots on here who do 47mph in a 30mph zone but surely you could count them on one hand? If you're prepared to do 47mph in a 30mph zone then presumably you've done it before.... then it's only a matter of time before you injure yourself or someone else. Unfortunately he's killed at least three people, a child and the mother and father who know tragically have to live with the consequences. The judge is also complicit in this crime.

I think that's what he means by "normalising" it - and you're right, we do make excuses for it. There shouldn't be any. We used to make excuses for drink driving too - "he's a good bloke, he meant no harm, he'd only had a few over the eight, he'd had a skinful then drove home the daft sod (usually said with a knowing laugh) etc. Same thing needs to happen with speeding - it needs to be just as socially unacceptable. If not, fit cars with speed limiters which prevent cars from going faster than the speed limit, whichever one is in operation at the time.
