Always amazes me the ridiculous fanfare you get with regards religion. If you don't like what someone says, just ignore them. Problem solved without the need to behead anyone. If their god is so offended by these cartoons, why doesn't he strike this bloke down? Too busy protecting followers from Covid?

I saw a cartoon doing the rounds a few years back that was supposed to be the one from the magazine that led to the terrorism. It was two images side by side, the first was Muhammed (depicted as a middle-age to old man) and Aisha (depicted as a child, maybe 8 or 9) looking at each other with love in their eyes. The second image was their wedding night, and Muhammed having sex / raping the child doggy style, with wild lust in his eyes, whilst the child was in great pain and distress and crying. There's obviously a chance that what I saw wasn't the same image that Charlie Hebdo printed. I personally found the cartoon extremely offensive although that's beside the point. However, I don't know exactly what's gone on in this RE class but I can't for one second imagine that the teacher has shown the same cartoon that I saw, or that the cartoon is part of the curriculum. If the cartoon isn't a part of the curriculum but the teacher has shown it then he deserves to be sacked.

I don't think for one second believe that that is the image that got shown, but I've seen it implied that the image that Charlie Hebdo printed was the one this teacher had shown and so it remains a slim possibility until the full story comes out, and that would go some way to explaining the suspension/sacking of the teacher. And no, obviously if the teacher has shown something benign that isn't part of the curriculum but that they felt had educational merit, then it obviously should not lead to a sacking. We can't allow this country to become one where blasphemy laws are brought back. "is it true Muhammed married a child never heard that one"

What are you talking about? When did I say marrying children is OK? That's some leap. I said that, on the off chance that the teacher has taken the liberty to show the image that I saw, then I don't think it's acceptable. It's an image that shouldn't be seen by children, regardless of the wider message of the image. It's an image depicting child rape... And yes I think teachers forcing political beliefs onto children is wrong, and sadly something that seems to be widespread and normalised these days.

If this tweet is genuine, then I can’t see it ending well for Ricky. He will be getting pelters for this, is he brave or strong enough to kick back, or will he roll over with a retraction and apology? He doesn’t give a fuck. It's not that brave! Whilst I agree completely about blasphemy, he's not been very specific here, has he!

Yes, Orbs, thanks, I used to teach RE in Derbyshire in the 80s. In those days we had SACRE...Standing Advisory Committee on Religious Education...to discuss the syllabus/issues. It was a time when RE moved away from being bible/ Christianity based to being multicultural. I was organising visits to Mosques, Synagogues, Gurdwaras etc...it was actually popular with the children....and even the parents, who even at Secondary came along with us.More pupils opted for RE than history at GCSE. It has been my opinion that anything should be up for discussion. I can understand the view that some might be offended because of their love of God, but for me I don't think that anyone should intimidate or restrict another person's thinking/ exploring because of their own views....and in any case there are ways and means of having discussions/ achieving change. Certainly teachers lives should not be at risk. Clearly this teacher will not teach at thst school again....the school will " have " to stand down....and I think it will have wider implications all across the school and in the community. As you say, there will be an agreed syllabus ,so presumably the teacher is teaching to it.....and yet he/ she will be hounded out. Spot on BJR. Totally agree. The more education about RE the better. Stops people being frightened and unwelcoming towards other faiths and cultures because of a lack of education. If it is the same guy from Birmingham organising the protest then he appeared at our local school about 18 months ago protesting about the teaching of LGBTQ in the SRE curriculum. He was met with short shrift by a large number of counter protesters (including Mrs Orbs) waving rainbow flags etc. Soon got packed off.

We can't allow this country to become one where blasphemy laws are brought back. "is it true Muhammed married a child never heard that one" For me Tom....as I've said on a different thread.....Charlie Hebdo do put out a lot of provocative " cartoons"...which are not meant to be funny, as you say, but are insulting and I can understand them being considered offensive. I'm not quite sure what Hebdo' s agenda is, but I've heard them described as a left wing organisation, which doesn't make sense to me. I think I've already said, the first issue might be whether the teacher was teaching to the curriculum , how the cartoons/ images were used/ age group of the pupils/ context of the lesson. For me it would be valid to discuss the issue of Mohammed and images....it's part of Islam, you'll never see Muhammad's facial features/ desecration of churches would involve getting rid of images....so it could be argued that the teacher should have known better , should have known that it could have been offensive...or was discussing the use of imageryin religion or specifically the idea of being offended( why not discuss it?)...BUT I would argue that the images ARE a current religious issue and should be discussed...BUT if necessary he could have " suggested " that those students who want to could investigate themselves on the Internet should they wish, without showing the images( but why should he have to). I am going to presume that it is a mixed Muslim/ non Muslim class, but obviously could be wrong...it should not make any difference. BUT the real issue for me..... Even if the teacher was wrong.... He should not be sacked. He should not be threatened He should not be hounded out, killed? The reaction to a picture / cartoon is way over the top. The reaction in the UK culture ( it's clear, we have more than one culture ---Culture clash ) In my opinion the way we should do things in a civilised country........ . If someone is offended/ incensed/ angry at what has happened in a classroom by a qualified teacher... 1.ask for an urgent meeting with the Head and teacher....and a couple of pupils if you like and escalated to governor level later if necessary..... 2 Establish the facts 3 If the teacher was acting within his remit ie if what happened is within the syllabus..carry on 4 If the complainant isn't happy....complain to the local MP, school, local authority etc and try to argue for a change of syllabus.....Mob rule intimidation is wrong. 5 If the teacher was wrong, apologise, don't do it again, follow up with staff meetings, educational meetings for the community, bridge building events, communication. He does not deserve to be hounded out, threatened, killed.

Without knowing the context it was shown in its hard to comment on the story meaningfully, can't see the teacher has done anything wrong apart from maybe being insensitive, nothing wrong with protesting as long as there is no threats of violence does seem a bit strange cartoons are causing more offence than an actual ongoing genecide in china but maybe thats just me..... If this tweet is genuine, then I can’t see it ending well for Ricky. He will be getting pelters for this, is he brave or strong enough to kick back, or will he roll over with a retraction and apology? He’s a multi millionaire he won’t give two fucks

Simple solution to all this. Ban religion.
If the human race wants integration and understanding throughout the world, ban the biggest thing that divides it.
The words of an alleged deity that has been mis-translated in a million different ways over centuries, is the biggest divisive thing on the planet.
