Didn’t we use them in the Championship though?

Seem to remember the "gift" was kept quiet, or at least not really used in the Championship, and then unleashed as a surprise weapon once we reached the Prem. And of course in the premier league TP had the playing area made smaller to increase the effectiveness of Rory's throws.

It was definitely used in the promotion season but then ramped up and gained national attention against the fancy dans in the Prem

Didn’t we use them in the Championship though? We won a crucial midweek match in the run in away at Norwich thanks to a Mama Sidibe back header that was: a) a precursor to his backheader against Villa b) much better than the Hernandez back header that people rave about c) off a Delap throw from what seemed like the halfway line

Brings a whole new positive perspective on "We Only Score from a Throw In" lol

The idea that the Delap long throw was a weapon only unearthed in the Prem is pure revisionism.
We scored at least three goals from headers from his throws in the promotion season.
Norwich away Preston home Hull home
And maybe more that I’m missing.
It became more prominent in the Prem as we realised that against better defences it was one of the best ways we had to create chances but it was absolutely a tool we used prior to promotion too.

The only thing i know about Rory's throw ins was that it upset Arsehole Wenger and buried the scum a few times. Happy days indeed.

The definitive Delap matches came against Hull in that first premier league season. Everyone remembers goalkeeper Boaz Myhill being pressured with the ball at his feet in the left-back area and choosing to clear for a corner, rather than face a probable Delap throw in. I think it was the Hull away fixture where the advertising hoardings were placed closer to the pitch, which forced Delap to restrict his run up, and Hull substitute Dean Windass warmed up in front of Rory as he prepared to deliver, thus obstructing him. Delap Phobia at its peak!

Delap Phobia at its peak! A few teams definitely moved their pitch side advertising hoardings into more strategically positioned places to hinder Rorys run up. West Ham definitely did at Upton Park (the hoardings were obstructing view of pitch if seats were low down in the away end!) & I'm sure Wigan possibly Burnley were others too! I wrote an email to West Ham after that game as the view of the pitch was definitely obstructed by the hastily rearranged pitch side hoardings as the lower seats were below pitch level at Upton Park. Fair play to them tho, got a letter of apology & a full refund for match ticket sent through. Don't ask you don't get do you?! That Dean Windass warming up routine was a classic, not just for thr antics he was up to but the fact that subs have never warmed up on that side of the pitch at any time either, ever! Seem to recall him star jumping & all kinds of things in his warm up routine that match in front of Rorys run up! He gave the ref a what's up when he clearly knew what he was doing & what the issue was.. Funny!

The only thing i know about Rory's throw ins was that it upset Arsehole Wenger and buried the scum a few times. Happy days indeed. I believe that Wenger tried to start a move to discontinue or ban throw ins, as the use of hands by an outfield player was against the spirit of the game of football, and also when Rory played it made the Arsenal team look silly.

We scored a few goals from it but it became an embarrassment after a while as that's all we became renowned for. I for one hope it never reappears.

Every time a new player comes into the team I hope he's able to do just half as good as Rory did. It wasn't all that we were renowned for and the other also gave Wenger sleepless nights.

Shades of Malcolm Marshall and the West Indian strike bowling attack. Not just efficacy but sheer raw excitement.
