Before you meet our maker you can choose any game from Stoke City history to watch,
1- You were there. Liverpool 2 Stoke 2,for that Kelly goal and mass celebration.
2- Wished you were there.1972 League Cup final,to see Stoke lift a major trophy
3-Wished you weren't there. Difficult choice as never want to miss a game but have to go for the cup replay defeat at Telford,we were shit that night.

I once by pure accidental chance happened to have a one to one conversation with no other than “Our” Gordon Banks .
We talked for some time and reminisced and he was amused to hear that I used to pay 2/6p to stand behind him in the Boothen End.
Eventually the conversation came round to the game to remember. I started off by saying W Ham v Stoke at Hillsbough. Before I could finish my sentence he said;
“It was a 0=0 Draw and a fantastic game.”
I will never forget the awesome sound of W Ham supporters singing “ Blowing Bubbles” or the fact that Gordon remembered the mid week game so well.

1. Very difficult to choose. Liverpool 2, Stoke 2 ( Tony Kelly equaliser) because my daughter was our mascot; 72 Wembley League Cup Final win v Chelsea; 5-0 Wembley SF win v. Bolton; Notts County away when we got promotion with Richardson's late goal. Stoke 3 Leeds 2 to end their unbeaten run. I think by a short head it is the League Cup Final. 2. Easy - 3-2 win over West Ham in League Cup semi-final replay at Old Trafford. I was on Newcastle Council and Vice-Chair of the Highways Committee. There was a public meeting about a proposed major road scheme in 'Castle ( which never happened in the end). The leader of the Council told me I absolutely had to be there or else. So I missed a fantastic game which took us to Wembley. Made worse by the fact that very few turned up at the road meeting ( probably because they were all at Old Trafford ). 3. How long have you got ? The worst feeling I've ever had at a match was undoubtedly after Arsenal's last ditch equalising penalty at the FA Cup semi-final at Hillsborough. This was of course before we'd been there to win the League Cup the year after. We'd never been to a Wembley final and were just seconds away. Somehow we just knew that that was our chance and that it wouldn't happen in the replay. I always said it was character-forming because nothing which ever happens to Stoke on a football pitch could ever be as bad as that, so maybe I wouldn't say that I wish I hadn't been there. You have to go through these things !

1. Bolton semi, 5-0. Wow. 2. Autoglass final win v Stockport, couldn’t get time off work. Wish I’d told them to get fucked but at the time couldn’t afford to lose my job. Or.... Liverpool 6-1 (was on holiday) or.... the Crouchie wondergoal v Man City (think I was ill)... definite pattern of missing great games! 3. Playoff semi v Leicester (Garry Parker) - utterly heartbreaking.

1. Bolton semi final but this time sober, I was pissed for most of the game.
2. Liverpool 6-1, I was working
3. Probably the game we got smashed by Birmingham at home and the boardroom got stormed, I remember being terrified as a wee kiddie.

1. Beating Bolton at Wembley.
2. The League Cup final.
3. Bristol City away in the Cup a few years back. Still the worst Stoke performance I've seen, and that's saying something.

1. I was there - League Cup Final Stoke 2 Chelsea 1 2. Wish I had been there - Stoke 9 Plymouth 0 Dec 1960 (our record home win) I was a very young intermittent attender in those days and this was one I missed. Made worse by the fact that a school friend who was a Vale supporter and lived round the corner went with his dad. 3. Wish I had not been there. Too many to mention - I refuse to nominate one in particular!

1963/64 season saw Stoke draw at home on a Saturday to West Brom 1-1.not a very good game, we were then at home again in mid week to Ipswich Town.... after the dissapointing last game,I thought I will give this one a miss, Jesus when I checked the result...9-1 we won, could not believe it, that's the one I always regret missing 😩😩

1. Bolton 2. Many challengers aside from LC final.. I'd like to have been there to fully absorb the best performance a Stoke team has given in my lifetime - Man City 2-0, but the 80s child in me would go for the annihilation of Liverpool. Also Notts '79 and Ninian Park 3. ManC relegation game. Utterly vile experience

I know because I couldn’t get to mid week games as dad was always working and he wouldn’t let me go on my own as I was only 11 at the time.

I normally used to go to games with Susan, my girlfriend at the time. For some reason she opted not to go to that game and when I saw her that evening I couldn't convince her what the score had been. It was only when we watched the highlights that evening that she finally realised I was not winding her up!

Yes, it wasn't MOTD though - I think they were on ITV and it MIGHT only have been a local Midlands program - it seemed to vary over the early years. Black and white on about a 14 inch screen - not very dramatic - it certainly wasn't like being there!

1. 3-2 win over Aston Villa which was the first home game of the Prem era. Mental last minute winner;
2. Must be the 6-1 thrashing of Liverpool for Gerrard's last game. My old boss at the time was a 'pool fan so that woule made being there extra sweet.
3. Getting embarrassingly thrashed at home by bloody Birmingham City.

Players traditionally numbered then (1-11) and all the forward line scored 7-11. Surprised nobody has mentioned the 2nd Division Championship winning match Stoke 2 Luton 0 , with Stan scoring the crucial 2nd goal. Tremendous scenes after the game when the Sunderland and Chelsea scores came through.
