I'm very sorry to hear this, RIP Saint. Condolences to all his loved ones. I remember him as a great player of the 60s, who put Liverpool back on the map along with Merseybeat etc. but I particularly remember prior to the 1970 world cup the BBC ran a competition to find a new commentator as they needed more to cover the world cup in Mexico. The competitors were kept anonymous and I remember I thought one was outstanding, but he did not win it. When the winner was announced it was revealed that the one I thought was brilliant, as he gave huge incite into the game as he was commentating was St John. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/wales/13680785

Essential viewing back in it’s day.
My wife, who has little interest in football, has just said to me, oh I loved Saint & Greavsie.

I wish they'd repeat Saint & Greavsie on ITV 3 or 4, like they do with The Big Match.

Always had great craic re Scottish goalkeepers. I remember Saint showing Greavsie a performance by a keeper the previous weekend for Hearts. turned out his name was Henry Smith and Greavsie of course pointed out that no one called Henry Smith could be Scottish so he came on next week with his birth certificate

They always seemed to show Tranmere Rovers highlights on their show as back in the day Tranmere generally always used to play their home games on the Friday evening to avoid clashing with either a Liverpool or an Everton home match!
Remember watching highlights of a Tranmere v Stoke match & thinking wow Stoke are on TV & St & Greavsie no less!
Obviously back in the day footy wasn't as saturated on TV as it is now, aside from Central News Sport round up highlights or Central midweek sport special!

They always used to strike a perfect balance between seriousness and humour. As a pair they were great together and it was always on the TV at the weekends in our house growing up. RIP Saint!

Im sure it was greavsie who came up with a cracking comment when forfar were playing celtic in the cup and the camera was showing forfars ground, then it panned over to the side with a field full of sheep to which greavsie said 'thats the forfar 67 cup winning side' or something along those lines. Had me chuckling for ages.

RIP Saint. Used to love Saint and Greavsie. Noticed Dickie Davies in that clip. As a kid you were either watching Grandstand or World of Sport. For me it was world of sport mainly for the wrestling but also the different unknown sports they used to show like banger racing and speedway.

Saint & Greavsie talk about the Endsleigh League as it it were interesting....Fantasy Football. Always mocked Ricky Otto for some reason.

I met Ian St John once in a cafe on the Welsh/English border
He was a nice chap, happily sat and chatted football with my dad, took an interest that I was a Stoke fan etc, good bloke.
RIP Ian.

I remember, it was said there was a church in Liverpool which had a notice outside which said "What would you do if Jesus came to Liverpool" Some wag wrote underneath it "Move St John to inside left". well it always made me laugh!

Yeah seem to remember we'd won but couldn't of told you the score! Was staple Saturday lunchtime viewing before heading off to the match. Remember Saint & Greavsie inviting then businessman Donald Trump to assist in the League Cup draw once too! Not sure how that quite came about!
