you see on a football pitch. I remember an occasion when one of our players took a throw in and completely missed the pitch and the throw had to be retaken. Today was another such day, the ball bounced nicely just inside the box to the left and as we all went to get to our feet in anticipation somehow our hapless £6m winger managed to strike it into touch on the opposite side of the pitch.

I would go with the FA Cup game when Man City played at Sheff Utd in 2008. Sven Goran Eriksson’s City went to Bramhall Lane and were beaten, althoughthe home side could thank a couple of balloons for their opening goal.
Memorably, a cross from Sheffields Lee Martin from the left hit two of the sky blue balloons that the travelling City fans had released, which confused Joe Hart who followed the distraction of a balloon rather than the ball, leaving Luton Shelton to fire home. United went 2-0 up before half time, and Man City got one back from Daniel Sturridge. The bizarre goal was of course allowed to stand.

Yes, Lee Martin, now 34, so probably back on our radar in recent seasons! Spent a lot of his career mainly with Man Utd, but out on loan. In January 2007 he came on loan to Stoke when we were in the championship and he actually scored for Stoke in the 2–1 win against Southampton on 10 March 2007. It was his only goal in 14 appearances for the club.

Reinas reaction was priceless

Anyone remember Mark Prudhoe’s hack at Kevin Keen’s back pass at Huddersfield. Looking back it’s one of the funniest own goals you could see- standing there it wasn’t so funny.
