I really like the look of Norton, getting stronger by the week, got a bit of Powell about him. He could quite easily replace Vokes on the bench.

Whoโs the tall blonde haired lad in the centre of defence? Am I correct in thinking heโs the one whoโs been on loan at Chester? I wondered about him, he certainly had a good game and worked the whole back four positions.

He's another who catches the eye. Looks elegant on the ball and seems to have that extra split second of time. Very similar in style to Harry Souttar. Looks a prospect.

Enjoyed this more than the first team games. Indeed commitment effort and looking to attack whenever possible a refreshing change from the dross churned out by the senior team, they should be made to watch these lads.

Hadnt realised that Wade Elliot is no longer part of our U23 coaching set up. Checked it up online as hadn't seen him patrolling the technical area with Russell in recent matches and it turns out he departed us to join Cheltenham Town as a coach back in September last year.

lost a bit of shape after the big lad came on (Goodwin ?). He didnt do much but early days I guess. I think he did a lot of running and harassing the Norwich defenders, Walters style. He didn't get into goalscoring positions, because we didn't play him that way. Norton and Varian have been played up front all season, they have the ball run unto them by team mates used to doing that. But we didn't really have wingers crossing to Goodwin, so a lot of his positioning was in vain. We did have Coates and Jones as attacking fbs, but they were less effectual this game. I'd like to see Wright Phillips and Goodwin play together, as WP appears to be more of a traditional winger.

I thought Norwich on the whole were very poor. But they were really dangerous on the break, after corners, as they went forward with excessive pace, as if they were qualifying for Tokyo. But the team had limnited ability, none of them looked likely to make into their first team's smooth footballing machine. Whereas our boys...have several players that could make the first team, as soon as an opening appears.

The ref should have just waved play on it was a cracking tackle. I don't think he even booked a Norwich player for their histrionics. The keeper wouod have gone then second half.

They referred to us as being a "strong Stoke side." When you read further you found that 3 of their players had first team experience whereas non of our players had first team experience barring the on loan Derby keeper who has one appearance for their first team. This has to be the best U23 squad we have had since the U23 set up was started for PL clubs. Especially when you think that about 6 of the first team squad are also eligible for the U23s by right and not as overage players.

This time haven't really got an x factor player in the final third but it doesn't hold them back. Wright-Phillips has come in and given them something different for sure but it's just full of technically excellent, disciplined good footballers.
There's 6 games left stretching from this Friday to 10th May. So fuck all really.
So hopefully they get some friendlies on in between and keep us updated and maybe even stream them.

Get 4 from points from these next 2 games like we should do and it would be good for these lads I agree.

Agree about needing wins before we experiment but I find it difficult to believe that Wright Phillips is behind Matondo in his development and aren't they of a similar age?

Because MON has verified his first team squad only 16 days ago. So he's not going to look to the academy so soon, as that would be suggesting that his selected suqad isn't good enough. You might think they aren't, but MON can't admit that, because it would mean he had made an inadequate selection. Only if there's an injury crisis would he choose somone from the academy. But it's best so, because this academy team is still in the running for honours. So they should continue together. Then come near the end of the season if we've finished well, they could come into the reckoning. If he doesn't play for the first team, Forrester should return to the u23 team. After all, he is the regular captain. Varian is the vice.
