Slow, poor passing, disinterested journeyman merely passing through to top up his pension.

All a bit harsh. When he arrived he seemed way off the pace, but just before his injury he was up to it and was playing rather well. Post injury he's again seemed off the pace and obviously isn't back there yet. Is a fully functioning JOM a better option than Cousins? He's a better passer but Cousins positional sense seems as good and he's quicker to react. A dilemma I think.

Just not good enough anymore I’m sure a centurion tank would do a better job at the moment.

Just jogs around the pitch giving the ball away. It was like playing with 10 tonight. Why won’t he drop him

What I said in the match thread... Mikel can do one. Joking with Deeney at the coin toss, joking with him when NoDav was injured, and joking with him after he’d scored a penalty. He’s the captain FFS. The laughing with Deeney after the penalty is really inexcusable. When Wimmer did that after we lost to Spurs he was crucified Mikel doesn’t give a flying fuck and has zero motivation

Having seen us pin our Premier League hopes on Darren Fletcher I never wanted to see another 35 year old play for us in midfield again.
Sadly this experiment has gone the same way, fine for 5 games and then the legs gave up.

Should have come off again. Thought he was decent but then tired in the second half again. Manager can’t/won’t see it and won’t use his bench to its full potential. Shouldve been Fletcher and Cousins on at 60 mins for Clucas and Mikel.

Same old - dithers on the ball, allowing the opposition to sit off then kills all momentum by passing us backwards or, at best, sideways. Makes stupid decisions that you wouldn't expect from players who've played 50 games, let alone 500+, and doesn't even have the discipline to hold his position that led to the second goal. Here for one last payday - we never fucking learn do we? In short, an absolutely woeful signing that has taken us backwards - just hope he will be fucked off at the end of the season.

He wouldn’t play for us again if it was up to me. He clearly doesn’t give a shit. Bought here for his apparent leadership, winning experience and technical know how. He’s certainly no leader and brings very little else.

I just cannot see what he positively contributes to the team. Doesn't protect the back line and doesn't create anything. He's just lumberingly slow and just ambles about like a lost sheep. FFS just get him out of this team. Oh and on top of that, laughing with Deeney after the penalty went in was unforgiveable.

Meh. What does he actually do/what is his role? Juat seems a nothing player. Oh no! This comment just show how much you understand about the game. Another wonderful game from Jon Obi. Seems to be quite a few now who don't understand the gane.....

I was thinking they might have been international teammates as I can't recall them ever having played together at club level, but they qualify for different countries.

But for what we need them for Cousins is a much much better option. All Cousins needs to be told is what to do. That is simple Sit in front of the back four and protect that space. If a forward drops off, pick him up. If our right or left back bomb on then cover that position if they counter. He does not need to get involved in the nitty gritty of the midfield battle. That is what Allen/Clucas/Thompson/Tymon are there for. He has the athleticism to do this. Jeez, Eric Dier is an international footballer for doing nothing but that.

When he signed I thought he was the quality Rolls-Royce defensive midfielder we had been missing, someone who would sit deep and dictate play. It took him a while to get going and he wasn't exactly pulling up any trees even when he did, but since coming back from injury he's been like a fly without wings being swatted away.

I think Mikel's just knackered to be honest, the logical thing is to throw cousins in (never thought I'd say that, but he's been our best player (maybe joint with powell) this side of Tyrese's injury). The thing is he's playing in such a demanding position, we were warned that the legs had gone by the Boro fans before he came in so to keep expecting him to play every game in the most demanding position is asking for trouble

Ironic that Watford's Will Hughes has said that Mikel was the one making it a very difficult first half for Watford. They had to change their pressing pattern in the second half in order to overcome his influence.
Maybe other players see things fans don't understand?

He had some great games at the start of the season, and still seems to play well in the first half, but his legs are clearly starting to go.
He'll be pissing on the carpets by April and looking sorrowful. Time to usher him towards the bench MON where he can have a nice sit down for the next few months.

Andy Hinchcliffe declared on commentary that we played a back three with Jack Clarke and James McClean as wingbacks, when we clearly played with a back four. I certainly didn't understand that. Maybe I should just ignore my eyes and let the ex professional think for me?

He still has quality, but his energy and batteries are fading. What is the issue is not so much Mikel, but the fact that he’s not be used correctly. Give him 60 minutes and then sub him when he starts to fade and before he becomes a passenger and a hazard.
