Was not impressed when we signed Mikel, but his early form won me round. He broke up the play and palyed simple passes to others to get an attack going. Since his return he has given the ball to the opposition, passed sideways and backwards. Sadly of late, the sideways, backwards, sideways, hoof and surrender possession is reminiscent of Mad Nath's days. It appears that MON was desperate to get the "dream" midfield of Clucas, Allen and Mikel on the pitch and either he doesn't know what to do with them or they don't know what they are doing. A third view could be that passengers elsewhere on the pitch mean that their true capabilities are not being exploited. This means this transfer window could be a test in so many ways

The lack of movement off the ball is staggering. Move and create space, stand still and get closed down and surrender possession to the opposition. Sadly in recent games, many opposition attacks have started with our team gifting them possession. Why? Well its because our player in possesion only seemingly possess one option...the glaringly obvious. The total lack of movement caused by the rigidity of maintaining a defensive shape is stifling. Either that or our players are as thick, mobile and as quick thinking as Hippo shit. I worship anyone who wears the shirt but I am ashamed to say I spend most games screaming "Now move you f*cking twat" at them. My wife thinks I should be ashamed, I tell the neighbours F*cking twat is the name of the cat

Before his injury Mikel was playing well and getting him back involved makes sense. Coming in instead of Cousins doesn't given the way he was playing but I thought it was mentioned on here that Cousins was carrying a knock - a foot injury? Personally I think both Mikel and Cousins should be playing. The biggest disappointment in midfield for me has been Clucas and although Powell has played well in the last couple of games I think he's really not lived up to the hype.
What we've missed more than anything is a consistent starting 11 - I think that's probably more important than who actually makes the first 11 as the margins in terms of the individual players we have isn't massive and there's about 18 players can make a case for starting.

Good first half, poor second.
And I don’t like him for the goal either. Not sure if it’s man but he seems closest to him but behind like he should have been tracking him.
A big problem with him.

To drop Cousins, who was our best player for weeks for Mikel was criminal.
There's no room for him in our team.
Cousins sits at the base with Allen / Clucas / Thompson / Powell the 2 foward of him.

60 mins was ok. After that legs went like treacle as did a few of them but the manager thought it was a great idea to leave them on

He's a class act, thought he was very good today. Gets unfair criticism on here. I think he's one of those players you would appreciate more watching him live rather than via dodgy streams.

Armstrong is never his man. Problem was Souttar came for a ball that he had to do better with once he had committed but it came straight back. We had 3 defenders and one man but he was too quick for us I have criticised Mikel in recent times but he was much better today. Our biggest problem was the hole behind Matondo as the game wore on. Collins is not a right back and generally copes but we left him too much to do. They pinned us back and then space sipened up everywhere

They both struggled Holtby is a better footballer over Joe Allen and Davenport was too fresh for the pair of them, like you say the last half hour we were no where near.

I didn’t watch today’s game. I’m not a fan of Mikel and just wondered how he played today I’m same, couldn’t watch it and derided his contributions since coming back but I hear he played well.? Mixed feelings really, I don’t want him stopping younger players coming through(cousins has been excellent this season) but the experience should be good for us. Personally I think he should be on the bench and brought on when the situation needs it.

O’Neill was foolish to not make changes before they scored. They had made all of their subs and we had taken off Powell. They were just fresher and we should have sorted that out. Mikel should have come off for Cousins and perhaps Matondo for Ince. We just stopped winning the second ball, which we had been doing all game.

He's a 60 minute player at his age, Cousins has to come on once he tires or you're playing with 10 men

Need better than him if we going to push for promotion. I’m sure he will be good in the dressing room but that’s as far as it goes for me

I've mentioned on the matchday thread, I know a few people have mentioned Powell going off injured changed the game for us, but Holtby coming on definitely changed the game for them. He was bright & inventive & they're general play changed with Holtbys arrival and sadly as others have a alluded to, he bossed our midfield where Mikel & Allen were tiring. Do honestly think if we'd brought Cousins on just after Holtbys introduction he may have nullified his threat.
