I know. 500 mile round trip for Stokies that want to attend. Can't see the sense of it. I'm going to take my twin 5 year old boys to one of the friendlies this summer. It'll be their first game. Probably take them to the Ossasuna one as there'l be hardly anyone there and it'll be nice and quiet!!

the friendly was meant to be against Sporting Lisbon but they did not want to play Stoke so they took Osasuna as the 2nd option.

Osasuna is a good team but I was hoping for a slightly more fashionable opponent.

Still, no doubt the Sentinel will have them down as a "crack spanish outfit", which will actually have one too many r's.

Nigel Pearson . . . that's the reason we're playing Southampton.

Nigel Pearson isn't the manger of Southampton though.

Vale had them a few years back, then they pulled out and I think they ended up playing Sociedad or Santander.

Osasuna are pretty Z-list, as 'crack La Liga outfits' go, aren't they? A bit like the Krankies. And they're playing Hull 18 hours after they play us - so they're hardly going to be taking it seriously. They're not high-profile enough to drag anyone down who wouldn't have been attracted to go to the designated 'home friendly' anyway, just to see the new signings etc. All in all, pretty worthless.

I don't think it matters at all who we play- being a Prem side then all other Prem sides are pretty much out of the window as far as pre season friendlies go.
We're not established enough to be included in any prestigious continental tournaments and they are no more than warm up games when it comes down to it.
Who knows we might yet get a big name in Austria- seems to be a few teams there but can't really see the fuss.

I'd prefer it this year if we did the rounds on the local teams that would appreciate playing a prem side; Crewe, Vale, Stockport etc... However playing Soton is good for all the southern based stokies.
