We know wing backs don't work, they have never worked for us, how can he not see that. A makeshift LB and 4-2-3-1 is a far better option for us right now.

7.
Defensively solid but going forward absolutely useless. A decent striker is a must in this window

Had the team well organised and looking way smarter than Boremouth, Fletch and Powell up front was working very well along with the high press. It all started to unravel when Flech went off. Brownie just can’t do the short turns and quick passing in the final third. We desperately need a striker, I don’t think we need a left back. MIST GET A STRIKER this month.
Boremouth dire 1st half got better after 70 minutes of shite and scored with their first real chance. They know they were fortunate.
Says it all when they bring on King as sub while we bring on Vokes.
7 for me.

6 but now relaxing from my earlier frustrated state. His hands are tied with the resources available to him up front at the moment. However till I see Verlinden given a chance then I will question why MON seems not want to play him.

Give him 8 for that
Unlucky to lose. Don't think the players could have given much more. The difference between the 2 teams was epitomised by their goal: lack of quality at one end resulted in a quality strike at the other.

6 from me wing backs just don't work. Gouranga. I think MON would agree to be fair certainly not with the lads we have playing there. Dust it off and go again in the cup next week.

10 Set out team to suit Allen, worked a treat as he appeared to be amongst our better performers. Just need to hope some suitable teams were watching.

5, overly negative and a bench with nothing on it if the game needed changing.

We played pretty well especially after losing Fletcher, but he needed to take a chance and go for the win.
Lack of scoring goals and being too negative is holding this season back massively.

another 6, Mick did a lot right with the options available, the trouble is he's got us complacent about being this negative. there was an extra 10% in most of the lads out there tonight and I don't think he even tried to press the buttons to risk winning. if we don't have a head change soon we're going to tumble back down to mid-table

7. Got the starting line up about right when considering the limitations of our squad and we actually played well until Fletcher went off injured. Had he stayed on I think we might have sneaked a goal in the first half. Once he had to go off he was limited by the dearth of options on the bench and Brown was absolutely useless.
Verlinden is a strange one. I don't buy into this Verlinden love in that seems to be on here and don't think he's as good as many people make him out to be. But he clearly offers something different on the wing and an attacking option at least from the bench. I can't see why he hasn't been used more when our attacking options are so stretched. He simply can't do any worse than Brown.

7.5 - managed to get a tune out of the formation pretty much forced on him by injuries (and the unbalanced squad he inherited) and then the game plan goes out the window when Fletcher goes off. Hands pretty much tied after that and 1 slip up away from a 0-0 against one of the top 4 sides in the division. I don't know how we do it but we need to support MON as much as possible in January (3 players needed) or this season is petering out already.

That is accurate if you are talking the last 20 minutes. For the first 70 they had a couple of through balls but as the game wore on their pace and quality found space to exploit us. The first 30 minutes we were the only side in it.

5 .......starting line up good and we look good for 15 min ...but then fletcher injury ..vokes should have replaced him ..just so we could keep same style set up etc ...but we just went down hill with brown ...created nothing and we’re always going to concede by how much space our back 3 were leaving...didn’t learn from solanke chance in first half .....wing backs are not working

Other than subs and maybe options from the bench, not sure what else there is he could have done.

7 - much better than the last game, controlled the midfield for the most (though the change from Thompson to Clucas didn't work). We passed the ball well at times but were toothless up front, especially when Fletcher went off. 5 at the back doesn't work, we don't have the wingbacks to play this way and to persist with it is hamstringing us.
We need at least 2 forwards and a left fullback in the transfer window and something different on the bench, i.e. Verlinden or someone like him.

9 Tactics were spot on for the personnel he had available. We pressed them and hassled them and nullified their attacks to a trickle of over the top balls.
Going forward we created chances in the first half and if we had any quality at all up front we would have been sitting pretty at half time a couple of goals to the good against a very good team.
Listening to his post match interview too, he pulled no punches, he saw the same game as we did, he saw the same shortfalls including the one that cost us the game because “we gave the ball away in a very promising attacking position and the ball gets pumped up the pitch and we concede”
He knows who made the mistakes, he knows what and who needs to change. He said that we will be working on shaking things up in the window with some leaving as well as coming if all goes to plan.
I feel that tonight’s game was very useful to him in clarifying what he wants and needs to do.

4. Dreadful shit again. We look so devoid of any ideas at all. Any ball over the top catches us out. Surely when your playing against solanke and Sturridge etc you set your team up so one defender drops off to defend the pacein behind. We look like schoolboys at times. I still can’t remember the last time we forced an opposing keeper into a bloody good save at home. Or we had sustained pressure and probed and pulled a team around. The football is dreadful. Mikel strolled around tonight like he is here for the pay check. I’m still unsure what cousins did to be dropped as he was doing ok. I’m sick to the back teeth of Maclean just hopelessly kicking it out of play or over hitting simple balls. Sort this shit out oneil because it’s absolutely wank to watch

Set up much better, higher up the pitch and a high press, he has his hands tied at the moment as far as strikers go, when you loose your two main strikers of course your going to struggle to score.
Obviously we need a striker ASAP.

8 from me. I just don't see what more he can do given our injuries and ring-rusty players. The injury to Fletcher, our last remaining proper striker, was a massive blow.
