Looks like he's going to Cyprus to sign for Mick McCarthy's team, so we can rule him out

The top flight in Cyprus is no better than the league of Ireland is it?

The top flight in Cyprus is no better than the league of Ireland is it? It’s a bit better but the Irish journos are saying it’s a great move, which is pretty laughable really. But I can’t blame anyone for wanting to live in Cyprus, lovely country. But a shit move football wise.

The top flight in Cyprus is no better than the league of Ireland is it? Mad Mick you'd think the big reason. Certainly helped his career. Odd one but his choice if true and not a bad place to live

Mick unlikely to last that long there. Lazy decision by Byrne. Not a step up at all and will play a bit more European football than he has done. Would they have offered him much more (if at all) than someone like us? A strange one. He’ll last a season and get sunburnt.

This may not be as "cut-and-dried" as it appears. If the man who gave him his first International cap came looking for him at club level, I can see why he would want to do him the courtesy of meeting him, irrespective of where that might be. If he does indeed sign for Mick, I wholeheartedly agree that it is a bad career move for a player who is plenty good enough for an team in the championship. Furthermore, being stuck in a back-woods league at the far side of the Med isn't going to help his chances of adding to his caps.
Like a few others on here, I have seen him regularly over the past two years. Yes he would improve us (considerably), and yes, on the face of it, Cyprus would look like an awful career move (if it happened). I suspect, though, that this is also a sign that MO'N was never really interested.

So basically he's a lad more interested in nice weather, glad we side stepped this one then. So the lad is an eejit, with with Nott's Forrest or Stoke he would have potentially ended up as a Premeirship player.

Non essential signing anyway at this stage. Any player we get has to be able to come straight into the starting eleven and improve us immediately. No point in recruiting in an area of the pitch where we already have plenty of options in the January window.
