I'm sure it's been discussed elsewhere on here, but watching tonight's BBC programme about Marcus Rashford's fight to end child poverty, I have to say he's an inspirational young man. Well played Marcus!

Agreed. He came across as a genuine young man.

I think it’s great when people in the public eye become involved in such important causes.

I think it’s great when people in the public eye become involved in such important causes. Genuinely too. Not just for likes on Instagram or because the club has put them up to it.

He's proper super star. Mature head, young man, kind heart. He is impossible to dislike, which is frustrating when you consider who he plays his football for!!

Should have won SPOTY in my opinion. Instead it goes to a milIon times winner and, unlike Rashford, somebody who courts controversy and division.

I wish people would stop calling him a “young man”. I know he literally is one, but it comes across as a patronising way to describe someone who’s achieved more in 23 years than most people will do in a lifetime.

An incredibly hard working, kind and talented one. That's all, I don't mean it to sound patronising. I think he's incredible.

It is awesome when footballers become role-models, unfortunately not many of them can be.

Then why is the award for UK Sports Personality and not UK Sports Person? I agree Rashford should have won rather than a tax exile who chooses to not contribute his fair share to the UK.

He is a remarkable (young) man who has used his fame for the right reasons.
One of the many things I like about him is that he is never triumphalist when he shames this squalid, mean-minded and absolutely hopeless government into yet another U-turn. He is always thankful and respectful and then moves on to the next stage of his work.
One of the most important of Marcus Rashford's messages is that if a child goes hungry, it is never their fault. That is something many Tory MPs don't seem to recognise, although, to be fair, some of them came over as pretty decent human beings on the programme.

He certainly throws into sharp contrast the sheer cruelty and lack of any compassion whatsoever exhibited by the current government

Fantastic young man 😉 Only thing that irritated me was the pollocks who have to tweet stick to football. Bound to happen though I guess.

I personally stopped watching it when they made it clear they were just going to pretend Carl Foggarty didn't exist. Absolute disgrace if yoos ask me. Edit; But yes Rashford is proving to be a very good role model for kids. Football needs more of his type. As funny as Balotelli was having firework displays in his bathroom its not really a great example for the kids

I had no intention of being patronising. I'm 60 years old so I think I'm allowed to refer to him as a young man!
