I'm not a huge fan of the laddish bantersome nature of this podcast, but if you can grit your teeth through the northern bevvy talk and the effin and jeffin, you do get some eye-opening anecdotes from the guests they have on. Anyway if anyone still enjoys a bit of schadenfreude at the expense of everyone's favourite racist 90s lower-league donkey Jim Gannon, have a listen to the first 20 minutes or so of this, about his time as Port Vale manager and the *ahem* respect he commanded among the players. Horsfield absolutely despises him.

I can remember him getting off the bus and the furore surrounding that.

Good listen that. What a twat Jim Gannon was/is.
If my memory serves me well, wasn't there an issue with him and Steino during the Macari years? Pretty sure Gannon was accused of making racist comments towards The Golden One.

There's a lot of hate (snobbery?) towards the podcast because of it's laddishness and endless fixation with drinking, fighting and so on, but I think the reality is that it's just what most English footballers are like. It's only in recent times that PR men have tried to reinvent the likes of Joey Barton and Wayne Rooney as intellectual heavyweights. As such there's an honesty and authenticity that cuts through the usual world of polished media platitudes. I'm not saying that the stores aren't cringeworthy or tiresome, but it's just how it is.
Personally, I only ever listen when a player has something to do with us or the Vale, which means you get some fascinating behind the scenes stuff about the club and the absolute gold in the video above.

Same here. I mean, I love a good swear, but I find it a struggle to listen to 600 versions of "I went for the fucking ball and fucking elbowed this fucker then we all fucking went for a fucking pint together" while Parkin claps like a seal and the others, whoever they are, pretend to find it funny. The twenty minutes of Gannon stuff is good though: just because it has Jim Gannon suffering as the punchline.

Pretty sure Gannon was accused of making racist comments towards The Golden One. My somewhat addled memory of it is that Gannon spent the whole match racially abusing him, rounding off with some particularly unsavoury comments about Steino's mother. Steino decked him after the match and he went down like Spanish forward looking for a pen. Gannon, the brave hearted lion that he is, went squealing to the police to bring an assault charge. I've no idea how much of this is true or how much I may have invented in my own head.

Folks If your not much for the swearing try the Chris Kirkland episode it’s fantastic. He opens up about his struggles with anxiety and his rehab etc, comes across a brilliant bloke.

I get why people don't like it and I hate drinking culture and people that call you pal but I do find Parkin funny.
The story about Gannon is brilliant. I mean amazing what you can actually get away with in professional football though. Any other profession and Horsefield is sacked instantly even though he's got a point and the snidy twat deserved it.
