The sooner we are out of this tinpot shit league the better surely.

All the teams that get promoted these days invest heavily in new players to try and survive in the Prem.
There is no point in delaying promotion. A Championship club cannot attract Premiere League standard players.
If we were to be promoted this season we would have to replace all our older players and hope our young players continue to improve and form the basis of a team that has enough synergy to keep its place in the Prem.

I wouldn't call the league tinpot but anyone who thinks we shouldn't go up is out of their mind. If we don't go up we'll almost certainly lose our three best players.

No matter what the end goal is promotion. There is never a situation where it’s better to not be promoted

Better to go up. Obviously. But let’s hope we’ve learned lessons from last time... Ten year stay in the top league? I thought we did brilliantly. Surely if we do go up again the realisation is there amongst fans that it’s only ever going to be for a limited amount of time?

If we go up then yes it is better even if you come straight back down as you reset everything and still get the money coming in. However invest in youth and more British players that will stay with you to jump up again in the 2nd season

Would we have to pay bonuses to say Wimmer etc if we got promoted?

If I could choose to go up this year or next year I’d rather defer a year so the crowds will be back and we can enjoy watching a promotion season properly.
But it doesn’t work like that of course.
The reality is that if we don’t get up this year we will likely lose a couple of our best players.

Talk of promotion is premature in my opinion but if we’re up there come April/May then yes of course we take it and let the Coates family open the cheque book again to make sure we stay there

I think that way all the time but it's a stupid way of thinking (said I). We might not look good enough, but if we're in with a chance come the end of April, we should definitely go for it, becasuse the chance might not come next year or the one after. We don't have a great team but neither do any of the others this year. Also we have Mikel and Fletcher, probably our best players and the most likely to do well in the PL, but they're both coming towards the end of the line. They'll be good for another year, but after that? And then we'll have to start all over without those two.

why is this a "tin pot shit league"?
I love it. Much more competitive, more honest.
Having said that, i wouldnt turn down a promotion, but id much rather it be a promotion that we can all celebrate in true style.

If we were to go up, I think there will be some retrospective appreciation of the job that Pulis did 12 years ago. Look at most of the promoted teams within the last ten years: they are either back in the Championship, playing yo-yo, or hanging on like grim death. The fact we stayed there for ten years is still a considerable achievement, and it was Pulis who consolidated our status for the first half of that.
I’m not sure that the MON strategy of surrendering possession and relying on playing on the break would serve us well in the Premier League. It would need a significant investment in the team and a massive shift in tactics to help us stay up.
But yeah, no point in hanging about and timing it right. I felt back in 2008 that we weren’t ready but I was pleasantly surprised.

A mate of mines a Baggies fan & he's already resigned to the fact that they'll likely come straight back down. But he basically says we'll take the Premier League monies & just go again. Norwich seem to have a similar out look on things. Both teams don't invest stupidly and both sets of fans are quite accepting that being relegated from the Premier League isn't the end of the world & within 1 or 2 seasons they'll be celebrating another promotion back up there.
I do think that sometimes our 10yrs stay in the Premier League, despite being great at the time has likely caused us more harm than good long term, especially with the way things declined so rapidly. We were almost expected to go straight back up but we were different to most other relegated teams in that we were effectively a whole established Premier League team. We had a team full of Premier League players and this was always going to cause us problems. Your likes of WBA and Norwich will be teams mixed and balanced with Premier League & Championship standard players. I can see Norwich will be featuring somewhere in the automatic or play off positions come next May for this reason. Same as if WBA do get relegated, they'd be there or there abouts in those promotion positions the following season.
Do I think we're good enough for promotion with everyone fit & on form, yes I do. Do I think we'd be able to hold our own and stay in the Premier League as we are, no, not without sensible but realistic recruiting. Would it better to stay down another season, no-way. The finances we'd gain regardless of how did in a current day Premier League would be too good to pass us by, even if we did come straight back down. So long as didnt get a pummelling every week and were competitive to give a good go a relegation whilst not being ideal, really wouldn't be the end of the world.
Someone asked me the other day is our current squad good enough to get promoted and I answered I honestly think we are. If player for player you take a look at Pulis's original promotion winning team, Fuller, Lawrence, Delap, Wilko and Whelen are realistically the only players from that squad that would walk straight into our team right now. Cort, Pugh, Creswell, Dicko, even Sidibe etc weren't world beaters at that time, they were just honest professionals who together fitted the system & culture that TP had built at that time. Obviously Shawcross was a commanding presence in that promotion winning squad but he's still a Stoke player despite being a few years older.. & wiser now!
Whilst not comparing MON directly with TP I do see comparisons & similarities & interesting that both came into Stoke having to save us from a serious threat of relegation, & once established turn us around from that to promotion contenders.

Not with the behind scenes set up still in place, they’ve got their heads so far up their arses it’s unbelievable.
I can see the club being up for sale if promoted in an attempt to recoup some of their investment.

And that’s just it, some fans were never happy & kept banging on about the so called ‘next level’. We ended up with a load of overpaid mercenaries, relegated and if it wasn’t for the current manager we’d be in League One now.

This ^... sensible words. 👏🏼 The fact that a few call the championship ‘a tin-pot’ league when it has a plethora of teams that have such amazing histories, fan bases etc, just shows what’s wrong. The expectations from a large sections of our fans are just bewilderingly out of proportion to reality. Over inflated sense of grandeur. Maybe it’s the generation that grew up with the Prem years that only know that, or a load of folk who usually weren’t bothered but jumped on the band wagon when we started pulling ourselves up to the ‘promise land’? Every team that has gone up and stayed for a good period is generally made up of below prem league players and more importantly, lower than prem mentalities. That’s what got us there with TP, and I see MoN as working wonders in a short time to start to get that mentality right again. I lay my trust at the feet of MoN, as a supporter I’ll take the lows that come with changing a team and focus on the positives. It is our choice whether to support stoke with moans, groans, ‘he’s wank’ ‘we’re wank’ mentality but for me I’ve never seen an instance where such negative support helps to obtain positive results.

And for the record, I think we would have more chance of staying up for longer if we went up next season as more time to inbed a solid squad and mentality ready to take the step up and stay up but if it were to come this season then great, give it a go.
