There have been a few debates recently in the media about what defines masculinity, how men have seemingly lost there identity and why this has happened.
Here is my take, and before you all start calling me any type of phobic you want, dunna bother.
In my day, 70's and 80's especially, men were men, we had role models that portrayed machoism across all walks of life, Sport, Music, TV, films etc etc etc.
Nowadays virtually every programme you watch is full of camp men mincing around with their manbags and camp voices, the likes of Rylan whatshis name, keith lemmon, and most other so called comedians are all just as camp as a row of tents.
It seems being camp is a reason to celebrate, wheras being macho is very much frowned upon.
How I yearn for the days when men could be men...
Tin Hat Time...

'Doctor Freud, your patient has arrived' I have a morbid fear of Doctors... When I had a prostrate examination halfway through the Doctor told me that it was quite normal to get an erection. " I haven't got one " I told him. " Who's talking about you" came his reply.

I should have realised all was not well with The Doctor when I had my prostrate examination.
He told me to remove my trousers and boxer shorts and bend over the examination table.
" Where shall I put them " I asked.
" Over there, next to mine," came his reply.

I'm a man because I have the genitalia of a man, simply. I've never been told how to act and I'm glad about that. Men and women should be able to go around in whatever way they seem fit in my opinion. If anything, growing up in situations at football matches for example, where men spit and "act 'Ard" has made me want to act in a completely opposite way to that. Maybe it's an age/generational thing? But I just don't care what people think about me and I guess a lot of men are in the same boat of not feeling like they don't need to put on a front of being overly masculine.. I don't know.

The issue with masculinity arrived in the 80s and 90s with the new man: deconstructed, able to be both masculine and demonstrate feminine characteristics such as care and child rearing duties.
What many proponents of this failed to acknowledge is that men have been genetically and socially engineered not to be this way. It has been a learning process some of which have benefited men and women alike.
Now we're in an era when any form of masculinity is bad or 'toxic' which is ludicrous. There are toxic behaviours but a toxic gender? What about to toxic femininity when women are uber bitches to one another and young girls drive one another to suicide? Is that mens fault too?

I'm not sure about masculinity but chivalry is frowned on now days or appears to be. I do like to open doors etc for ladies I think we need to bring back some more care in that way.

Masculinity and sexuality aren't the same thing though to be fair. You can conform to whatever the conventional perception of masculinity is and be gay.
