I could not find a suitable dog for my family when I looked three years ago. It was a depressing experience, with an over abundance of staffy bull terriers.

A few years ago a friend of mine picked up 2 labradors from the guide dog association. They failed their final exam . Cant remember if he paid for them but they were beautiful and trained to a high standard

I’m just enquiring about others experience around here? I walk my mates dog, I can highly recommend it, I get the benefits of the exercise but have no food or vets bills and no need to arrange accommodation or put somebody out if I want to bugger off for a while

Get yourself a whippet. There was a rehoming place for whippets and greyhounds in Sandbach, not sure if it’s still going

I’m just enquiring about others experience around here? I mentioned on one of the other threads that I many years ago under pressure from the missus I relented and got a rescue dog on the basis that with both of us out at work all day it was unfair to get a puppy but a rescue dog would have a far better life with us than being stuck in a kennel 24/7. I got him from Sandbach animal rescue although they only re-house cats these days you could try Alsager Animals in need who I believe have a few dogs. The hound was a complete success and of course the puppy to keep him company followed a few years later Why don't you contact the dogs home and offer to go over and walk the dogs for them that way you might get to know one you like.

I used to have two Great Danes, lovely puppies but one day I got home and they’d literally eaten the kitchen. Was rescuing cooker knobs out of their shit the day after, no word of a lie👀

I always remember back in the day the hotel at Lake Vyrnwy used to have a resident Great Dane who had the run of the hotel. She had that wonderful slow lope and never bothered anyone

But it would be like a scene from Godzilla, everyone frantically trying to get inside😀 Mine could nail a pint of Guiness in 3 seconds, put a pint on the table and they would just get the tongue in and smash it! No wonder they don’t live long!

i’ve always wanted a pug, anyone got one? do they bark a lot? Please don't get one. They are ridiculously over-bred and, as a result, have loads of health problems. Mainly, breathing, knee and hip issues, obesity, the list is rather long. If you think about it, the further away from an ancestral dog shape (ie wolf) you get, the more likely, generally, your dog is likely to suffer health issues. Pugs should definitely be avoided.

No wonder they don’t live long! They are lovely animals. Real gentle giants, but I'm sure I read they don't live very long, about 7-9 years on average?
