The journalistic media and Leeds fans were obsessed with this sick person.
Hope it brings some relief to any family of his victims.
PS i like the R I H in the thread title.

Thoughts with all those people who suffered and still suffer as a consequence.

Long overdue Thanks covid-19 👍 Which raises a moralistic point. Should a 74 year old obese diabetic heart attack convicted serial murderer get a vaccine (if/when available) ahead of others, based solely on medical need?

No one will mourn this monster. It’s worth reading ‘Wicked beyond belief’ by Michael Bilton just to grasp the far reaching effects of his actions. Anyone old enough will remember how it scared our female population, the guy was almost like a ghost that haunted the north. I believe Sutcliffe used to make regular visits to Lucas Rists in Milehouse Lane in the course of his lorry driving job.

Apparently he died after refusing treatment for Covid. I’m just glad the bastard’s dead - one less burden on society/taxpayer. Pure evil.

They were spooky times. The entire nation was on alert. Made even scarier when the guy with the Geordie accent rang up claiming to be the Ripper, and said you will never catch me. Played on national TV news.

Played on national TV news. He subsequently did several years in prison. The story of his arrest is quite fascinating. He was basically caught as a result of a linguistics expert being able to identify a very specific part of Sunderland from his accent, which narrowed it down, then DNA got him. Died last year, a rather sad alky by all accounts. Interestingly, in numerous US states, there are laws which allow persons (usually prosecutors, coppers, witnesses for the prosecution) to be tried for the same offence as the defendant in the event of their deliberately giving false, misleading or corrupt evidence (including the death penalty in some states - which would make you think twice about lying if you were trying to frame someone, I imagine!)

Played on national TV news. I do a great Wearside Jack and often leave colleagues voicemails relaying mundane work-related information in the style of the cheeky Mackem scammer. "You are no nearer to completing next year's online engagement strategy than four weeks ago when you started. I reckon your boys are letting you down, Dave..." (I have a meeting with HR on Monday.)

I'll bung you a fiver if you use this line next time, "Warn whores to keep off streets cause I feel it coming on again".

I don't think Leeds fans were obsessed with him, they were targeting the police by having a go at how useless they were at catching him yet picking on football fans.

Yeah, similar to Millwall and their Harry Roberts chants. Walking the streets again is Harry.

Possibly a bit of truth in that but celebrating 'Yorkshire side of his notorioty' it was not pleasant on the train platform (1979) and some older people were appalled and us younger ones but the nice Leeds people were not very pleasant to put it politely.

The sick bastard has been on the news all fucking day, he's getting more coverage than most celebrities do when they die. It's disgusting how he is being paraded and I find it all a bit disturbing.

As a matter of interest and putting aside the understandable venom towards him, has anybody ever done a study on him?
Was he mentally ill or just plain evil?

As a matter of interest and putting aside the understandable venom towards him, has anybody ever done a study on him? Was he mentally ill or just plain evil? Good piece in today's DT on him would suggest both at various times. Experienced aural hallucinations as a gravedigger, voices from God telling him to kill prostitutes, but also stole rings and jewellery from the dead he was about to bury. Mad and bad. Convicted of murder, so legally sane, spent most of his time diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic in Broadmoor but was considered no longer mentally ill and transferred to a normal prison a few years ago. So both probably.

They weren't celebrating anything. The song went: "50 thousand coppers, yet only 1 Yorkshire ripper". I live near where the monster lived and don't remember anything like that.

Celebrating their win on the night. Different opinions i have been at 2 Leeds games around the time and they have sung about the monster plus also spoken with a few Leeds fans who went home and away around that time who told me several times they heard songs to that effect, may be aimed at police but also Yorkshire pride away sadly.
