To be fair MON should do well with the team he has at his disposal, in saying that so should have Jones/Rowette but it seems as if the “bad eggs” have been removed and there’s some unity now established.
The issue I have is that we seem to be grinding out results on occasions against shite teams, playing well for 70 minutes then dire for the last minutes or completely and utter trash ala Swansea/Bristol City.
Then there’s MON’s scared stiff approach to games, regardless of opposition, for me there’s to many accidents waiting to happen when he selects the like of Chester, it’s been steady so far but far from spectacular when in truth there’s not a lot to be frightened about in this league so far.

The Not the top Twenty podcast from Monday, which was a state of the divisions so far, had a couple of intersting stats. If I remember correctly they said we had created one of the lowest numbers of chances in the division so far, but that we had put away approx 50% of our chances. Generally that sort of strike rate is difficult/impossible to sustain so on that count, we're likely to have a bit of a downturn unless we start creating more chances.
On the other hand we've had the hardest opening fixtures in the division so far based on the positions of the sides we've played so far.
Same podcast revealed some unbelievable defensive stats for Boro, something like 8 shots on target conceded in the last 7 games!
Reckon at this stage of the season our points tally is pretty good but performances not so much. Either things catch fire a bit and we go on a nice run, or our weaknesses aren't addressed and we fall off into mid table. I'm remaining optimistic and reckon 6th.

To be honest, I'd envy any team getting promoted and wish it was us.... But I think O'Neil needs another couple of transfer windows before we challenge for promotion, maybe next season, hopefully!!!
I just think we'd be as weak as piss if we got promoted this season!!! 🤷🏼♂️
Don't get me wrong, if it happened this season.... I'd still be over the moon, but realistically, we need another couple of transfer windows first!!!

I'd still be over the moon, but realistically, we need another couple of transfer windows first!!! I'd love us to get promoted this season and it's definitely possible if we can be a bit more consistent, but I do think we need more time to grow as a team before we are exposed to the Premier League again.
From a financial point of view I'm sure it would massively help us out too, but as a fan I'm enjoying the Championship right now, a top 6 finish this season and a few decent windows and I think we can challenge for one of the top 2 spots next season and have a far better chance of staying up if we do get promoted than if we were to achieve it this year. I look at Leeds and think if they'd been promoted one year earlier I think they'd have really struggled, but this season they seem capable of competing and have a decent chance of survival.
That said though, nobody gave us a chance at staying up when TP got us promoted and it made for one hell of a season, so if we can do it this year then bring it on!

Is any team ever truly ready for promotion? We won’t go up this year, but if we did it would take 6-7 quality signings to give us any chance at all of staying up. I don’t see how another season of championship football would change that?

Is all about staying up that first season you would think.

I don’t see how another season of championship football would change that? Playing devils advocate; could argue our young players might benefit by developing another year in the Championship? Not much of an argument admittedly

I reckon Norwich and Watford will be the two teams for an automatic spot. As for us, we're too unpredictable to work out where we might finish. With Clucas and Allen to come back in (I don't hold a lot of hope that Allen will contribute a lot this season because his injury is the type that can be so hit and miss for recovery) and maybe a couple of new faces in January then maybe we will be in with a chance of the playoffs. The play off places will be a lottery right until the end of the season as they usually are.

You’d have to fancy Sheff Weds if they are lucky enough to get TP.

You’d have to fancy Sheff Weds if they are lucky enough to get TP. I’ll state here and now that they will get no where near.

I genuinely believe we will go up auto, behind Watford.
Play offs
Norwich Forest Brentford Boro.
With Boro probably going up.

It looks like the bookies fancy us to finish top 6. You can get odds on promotion at 5/1 at best and top 6 finish at a measly 7/4. Neither bets seem particularly attractive.

You’d have to fancy Sheff Weds if they are lucky enough to get TP. Well, they’ve got 6pts from 11 games, so to get to 75pts (generally gets you in the playoffs, but not always) they’ll need another 69pts from 35 games.. pretty much 2pts per game. Pulis has never got anywhere near 2pts per game over a season, even with his own team, so him taking over a poor Sheff Weds team and expecting them to become world beaters overnight is, at the very least, a little fanciful. They might avoid relegation this season but they won’t be troubling the top half of the table.
