So, I'll start by saying that when he is actually involved in the game, Vokes can be a pretty useful player. When he is bossed out of it, he's a drain to any system. Tonight he is certainly that, a huge sinkhole to any pathetic attempt we have made of going forward.
When Fletcher is not fit, what is the solution (assuming that we stick with 3-4-3)? I don't rate Gregory, so personally I don't feel that he would do any better than Vokes. Should we be playing Brown up front and moving Powell/Ince to right wing(ish)?
What other likely options are there? And yes, I know Bauer just scored a hat-trick, but it seems very unlikely he's going to be back in the team in the next 3-4 game spell without being reintegrated in first team training.

Gregory is dogshit but offers more.
Powell as a striker would be better.

I'm sick of seeing him to be honest. His very presence almost guarantees we'll resort to just hoofing it aimlessly. 99% of the time we'll lose possession.

I’ve got a coat stand in the hall. It’s not the most useful thing but you can hang coats on it. And it moves slightly more often than Sam.

TBH it isn't just down to Vokes he's had pretty much zero service not even a few long punts to get on the end of, even when we had a free kick level with the edge of the Swansea penalty area we didn't put the ball in the box. We've been shite from back to front. Gouranga.

You may not rate Gregory but I am pretty sure he'd have done more than Vokes did tonight. OK the service to the front was lousy tonight but Gregory's energy and stamina meant that he would have gone looking for the ball. He may not score many but I suspect he would have given the other attacking players a little more to feed off than Vokes did. I still don't think we would have won you can't win games against decent sides if you choose to bypass the midfield half the time and if, when you don't choose to bypass the midfield, only one of them (Mikel) actually put in any effort. I get why MON felt he needed to rest some of his players but I'm shocked how ONLY 4 changes could produce a team which looked light years apart from the one which played against Brentford. Despite the need to rest players, MON should have started Powell tonight - he probably has more creativity than the starting eleven put together. Bad day at the office - still, there should be some good teaching points for their next training session!

Would have preferred Gregory.
Hopefully it will be a long long time before we ever see Brown again.

He's passable if you play 4-4-2 and cross to him OR you play 4-2-3-1 and get the 3 buzzing around him to pick up the knock downs.
Heading's about the only thing he can do, and he's not even, like, brilliant at that really.
Playing a system like 5-3-2 or 3-4-3, just fucking forget it...you might as well have a lamp post up-front.

Nowhere near good enough tonight - but any centre forward up there on their own trying to get on the end of aimless hoof balls and with no other players anywhere near him would have struggled

I think I’d rather we actually line up with no striker at all than see him lumbering around helping out the oppo defenders.

It clearly was not working from the 1st minute. Most of the long high balls were aimless punts but the ones that did reach him, he didn't win. He didn't win one ball all night. It was a shit ineffectual tactic. I couldn't believe when the Scouse commentator said 'Clever play by Vokes' after he headed a ball out under zero pressure. Sounded like he must have been Sam's best mate.

Vokes record is fairly consistently at goal every 5 games throughout his career. Just can’t see how, based on current form. I think he needs to lose a stone in weight for starters. He doesn’t look fit.

He doesn’t look fit. His current spell in the league is one goal in his last fifteen. He's an utter shambles and one of the worst purchases in our entire history.
