Davies 8, very good again! Chester 6, not too bad, but looks a bit shaky at times. Souttar 8, excellent debut! Fox 7, steady Eddie again! Smith 7, decent again. McClean 5, his decision making was awful at times! Oakley-Booth 7, I can see what O'Neill is talking about now! Mikel 7, better. Clucas 5, not a good game in my opinion. Gregory 7.5, had a busy game and scored the winner! Fletcher 7, some nice touches and would have got an 8 if he hadn't gone for that stupid rabona! Tymon 7, did well after coming on, but really should have scored at the end. Brown 5, more quiet than expected under the circumstances.

Davies 7 Solid in everything he had to do and saved us at the end with the brave one on one.
Smith 7 Good delivery from out wide.
Chester 6 left Stockley alone twice in the first half at set plays. Some woeful square balls across his own box.
Souttar 7 Best of the defenders.
Fox 6 distribution is awful.
McClean 6 Not a wing back. Game trier today.
Mikel 7 Great movement and assist. Only one with the mentality to realise we didn't need a holder aswell as a back 5 against 10 men and 1 striker, and stepped out intelligently.
TOB 7 Some brilliant flashes and one in particular was Fuller esque.
Clucas 6 Looked off the pace and a bad miss.
Gregory 7 Good finish for his goal, a game runner and good outlet but he is Lee Gregory.
Fletcher 6 Want to give him a 0 for that ridiculous Rabona. A simple right foot finish would have done.
Brown 5 Couldn't get into the game at all. Some very poor touches.
Tymon 6 Poor finish when one on one after doing the hard work. Still looks awkward out wide.

Ref 11 - By far and away our most dangerous asset
Davies 8 - arguably MOTM
Chester 6 - ok got stuck in and bags of experience – right player to play with Souttar
Souttar 7 - Big plus – looked the part today, but gave away some naive free-kicks – should we get excited yet about having a viable CH who is not 100 years old?
Fox 7 - best game for us, albeit against 10
Smith 7 - good game and some decent crosses
McClean 6 - put himself about and was glad to see him back – the correct decision to sub - old hot head
Oakley-Booth 7 - Got involved and clearly has skill and confidence, but no final pass – but what a prospect!
Mikel 7 - ideal game for him against 10, had time to put his foot on the ball and clever distribution against 10 men.
Clucas 1 - don’t think I have ever given a score as low as that ever – feckin shocking game – was Preston’s best asset
Gregory 6 - thought he did well, got involved and of course scored the winner, but surely should have been looking to add to his tally and get some more goal scoring opportunities in a stretched opposition defence
Fletcher 5 - pretty much non-existent again – don’t know what he is poncing about doing when he hit the bar – just get your feckin foot through it, should have done better with the header in first-half also – not a predator on his 3 cameos so far
Brown 5 - Not really much time to get a mark either way - so a 5

Davies 7, not much to do against 10, but did well when needed Chester 6, mediocre Souttar 8, superb performance Fox 7 OK Smith 7, good crosses McClean 6, not his best matches, but did ok. Oakley-Booth 7, promising, should play further up the pitch. Mikel 7, did what expected. Clucas 6, rather anonymous. *Gregory 9 and MOM scored, and looked dangerous and willing. Worked hard. Fletcher 7, solid display. Tymon 6, did not get in to the game much. Brown 6 for the pace only.. too little time to judge.

Preety much agreewith blackpool on this apart from Smith and TOB
Davies 8 - What a difference having a confident lad in makes. Not perfect but good and the most solid of the lot.
Chester 6 - was ok.
Souttar 7.5 - Needs more of this.
Fox 6 - Not sure he did that much other than get clattered.
Smith 5 - thought he was annon today
McClean 6 - Was ok, did a lot of running - his job should be to get the ball into the box
Oakley-Booth 5.9 - Not sure I see what others see, but good for him to get game time to bring it out more.
Mikel 6 - Was starting to get swamped before they went down to 10 and i think we wouldve suffered his lack of fitness/pace. As it was he was quite clever throughout (i think it was his assist)
Clucas 2 - Not a captain ever. Second shocking game. shouldve been subbed really.
Gregory 6 - Good goal but shouldve been pressing them more with 10
Fletcher 5 - thought he had some clever play but what the fuck was that rabona, round the keeper and make sure.
Brown 4 - showed 0

Davies 8 - Commands his box exceptionally well and most balls over the top or through the back 4 (that usually saw us concede last year) are handled by Davies. Also very strong on dangerous balls in and around the 6 yard box. Calming.
Chester 5 - which is 4 better than his Bristol score so well done.
Souttar 7 - Going to be a great center half. Very commanding in both boxes.
Fox 6 - Did nothing wrong defensively especially considering the nightmare of having to cope with having McClean in front of him.
Smith 6 - Solid defensively and some good crosses
McClean 4 - Not at the races and is amongst the worst defensive left midfielders I have seen for a long time. And his attacking threat does not compensate for how bad he is defensively.
Oakley-Booth 7- Once he works out his final ball decision making (and he's only learning so no problem there) will be an awesome good player.
Mikel 6 - Still some way from full fitnesses but was good 2nd half
Clucas 4 - Not sure what's happened to Clucas this season. Has been way below par so far.
Gregory 5 - Scored a goal - which is what strikers are supposed to do - but my lord so poor otherwise
Fletcher 6- Still finding his feet but having to come too deep to get the ball. Minus 50 points for the Rabona not scoring and plus 60 points for even being able to do it.
Tymon. Not enough time to rate but high energy levels. Shame all his efforts to get clean through didn't pay off.
Brown. As for Tymon.

Davies 7, quiet game once they went down to 10 men, but did well when called upon, especially with the two towards the end!!!
Smith 6, better showing from Smith today, nothing exceptional, but nothing bad either!!!
Chester 6, steady, but he probably used his experience to talk Souttar through!!!
Souttar 7 (MotM), started slowly but grew as the game wore on, good outing!!!
Fox 6, looks better as an out and out defender than a wing-back, best game so far!!!
McClean 5, steady game, did okay!!!
Mikel 6, another one who benefited from Preston going down to 10 men, looked decent then!!!
Clucas 4, our very own "Gemini man" (for the older TV generation), one minute he's there.....the next, he's disappeared again!!!
Oakley-Boothe 6, like Souttar, he started slow, then got better as the game wore on, started to look good in spells down the right!!!
Fletcher 5, definitely offers more than Vokes with experience, but I'm docking a point for that attempt that hit the cross bar. If he wasn't sure whether play had stopped or not, he should have hit the back of the net first, THEN seen whether the ref had stopped play!!!
Gregory 6, decent all round game, makes a real nuisance of himself to opposition defenders, and was in the right place at the right time to put the ball in the net!!!
Subs....
Brown 5, didn't really do anything to push us on!!!
Tymon 5, did okay when he came on, could and SHOULD of covered himself in glory!!!
Thompson N/A

Mikel was much better once they went down to 10 men and he stopped playing so deep.
He really doesn't look like a holding midfielder in our set up at all.

Davies 8 - untested for most of the game, but bailed us out when needed, commanded his box well and distribution excellent. A real presence, even if he doesn't particularly look the part.
Smith 8 - came forward with real quality and defended his flank well - one of his best performances, albeit against 10 men. MOTM.
Chester 6 - was ok, didn't do anything too criminal, but was caught ball watching on occasion and still looks like he has a clanger in him. In summary, not convinced at all.
Souttar 7 - Solid, struggled a bit to begin with marking Stockley, but learnt quickly on the job and now needs a run in the team to further develop.
Fox 7 - Generally solid, had to cover Jimmy on occasion and dealt with everything thrown at him - still think BMI is the best option on the left of a back 3 though.
Jimmy 6 - looked awfully exposed, especially first 20 minutes, Barkhuizen had him sussed. Grew as a threat against 10 men.
Obi 7 - started slowly, but grew as a presence playing higher up - want to see a bit more risk taking in the final third instead of safe options that kill momentum in promising areas though.
Clucas 3 - contributed nothing bar a few suicide balls that could have cost us early doors. Otherwise, anonymous - doesn't suit this system at all.
TOB 7 - a very promising performance, even if end product not quite there. Bit more versatile than Powell as can drift wide and looks to take on people and offer threat whereas Powell is only effective playing in front and centrally.
Gregory 7 - Typical Gregory performance, full of running and industry, got his goal too. Would be tempted to play him as back up target man over Vokes as he offers more mobility, offers something in behind and can create space for runners.
Fletch 6 - worked hard, but not quite coming off for him at the moment. Did well in build up to goal but not quite there due to a bit of rustiness and system not quite suiting him.
Tymon 6 - offered fresh impetus out wide, though overplayed it on occasion. Great run on counter, but finish was dreadful. Still, another one that should be in and around the team regularly.
Brown 5 - not his kind of game, think we needed someone who could hold the ball well at that point, and he's not that type of player.
Thompson N/A - not time to make real impact
MON 7 - We won, which we needed, even though we needed that luck with the sending off, but a win is a win, and Preston are a lively side who will be a threat at home to anyone in this league. Performance wasn't that convincing, we look suspect from set pieces as we look confused with a back 3 on whether to mark space or runners, plus the wing-backs (who are not wing backs in my opinion) can be negated by being doubled up on, leaving them to drop too deep, pen us in and cut off supply lines going forward. Going forward, we should have put the game to bed with the opportunities second half, but poor finishing and over-playing and prioritising keeping the ball instead of gambling and taking a chance could have cost us - weird to say, but we look very short of confidence attacking wise, even though we've only lost once in our last 10 competitive games. I personally think we look a more balanced team playing the 4-2-3-1 - 3-5-2 is not a bad idea to have as plan b, particularly if we are away to someone who have a lot of dynacism going forward (eg. Wolves and I fancy us to get something at Villa too) but it's just so negative playing it at home to Gillingham and Brizzle. If we are to persist with it though (which unfortunately it looks like we will be doing) then we need to persist with a settled front 2 (for me Fletch and Campbell, Gregory as an option for either and Brown off bench as impact) instead of chopping and changing every week - in 6 competitive games we have started 6 different strikers and we need continuity so we can start to gel, both as a unit and for the front 2 to develop an understanding. Bonus point for no Vokes in 18 both midweek and yesterday.
