It should have been easy tbh... good performance, dominated all through, didn't really need to get out of third gear so we didn't... we're learning so much about the squad this way and, never know, there could be a real live cup run here.
8 from me

7 from me. It was clear that the game was used to give the youngsters a good run out and it worked in that respect. We should have won more comfortably - hit the bar - had a perfectly good* goal chalked off.
We could have won by more I think if we had players like Fletcher and Brown on the pitch for the full game.
One thing does confuse me is that the starting eleven would (as many others said) have suited 433/4231 and I would like to have seen that tried.
Still. there were plenty of lessons which I hope were learned. Brown, Tymon, Souttar and Collins all look ready for starts. BMI looks better in a back 3 than Fox whereas Fox would be better than BMI on the left of a back 4. Thompson looks streets ahead of Cousins when Mikel is not on the pitch and both Tymon and Thompson look as though they could also play the left wing back and Clucas roles respectively. Thompson MIGHT even be abke to play the Powell no 10 role - his passing was superb.
Finally, in my opinion if/when we do play a 433 or 4231 the wide players in the front 3 should be Brown and Campbell with Fletcher as the main striker - that would produce goals I am sure of it. And I do realise that leaves no place for McClean who I made my player of the season when we voted.
* in my opinion

Nice sum up Lakeland. Fox doesn't look good enough in the air for left centre back in a 3, do like his distribution though. Not sure about Souttar yet, think a nippy quick striker would cause him problems. I think Tymon has a touch of class about him and I don't think we've had a better passer of the ball since N,zonzi maybe. I think alongside the right players in midfield and he would be mint.

I was going to rate him but just couldn't be arsed. Like the enthusiasm for the competition - no one really cares. Pleased we won though. Gouranga.
