At least he runs through brick walls, this lot looked like they'd be scared to open their Xmas presents. Tame!
I know he's not Messi but at least he gives us some energy and not one decent cross from the left today.

I don't know why he's been left out. He definitely adds something to our game that we've lacked in the last two... McClean on the left, Brown on the right, with Campbell and Fletcher up top should do the trick

He should be on the bench, his omission from the squad entirely is poor imo.

Even if you go to 4,2,3,1 that personnel works... I'd go Fletch leading the line. Campbell in behind with Brown on the right and McClean on the left (all capable and mobile enough to switch positions). Can bring Powell on to switch it up at 60 minutes. You then stick Clucas and Mikel in midfield, with Fox or Tymon at LB, Smith at RB and Souttar and Collins at Centre Half based on their midweek performance...

Even a knackered McLean will give us more than anything we saw today. He plays as though he really does want to win.

We've got to stick with 4-2-3-1. We don't have good enough full backs to play with 3 centre backs

Wouldn't have made any difference. We need pace which was sadly lacking today.

It's amazing how much better players are perceived when they aren't playing.
Run through a brick wall you say? Probably the same brick wall I bang my head against after he fails to find a man with a cross.

Wonder if he was just too knackered from Thursday? Not heard MON’s interview as to why he left him out but he’s not someone you’d think he’d leave out full stop. Especially as player of the season.

There's literally no point in fannying around with any formation other than a 4231 as they're all inevitably shit.
I can't for the life of me understand why successive managers have been obsessed with fucking around with it.

It’s all a bit strange why he isn’t even on the bench
Perhaps he is being sold. Even though he was player of the year it was slim pickings last year and I’m not that convinced he’s that great but I’d have him on the bench at the very least

Mentioned this earlier about maybe a move in the offing as to why he was completely out of the running. That would be the clearest sign yet that transfers out are going way above the head of the manager - given his 180 degree comments about Afobe and the gushing praise he's (rightly IMO) had for McClean all of last season. I hope it isn't true as, despite what people say, I think he gives us a lot in this league.

Doesn't seem much more than 2 plus 2 equals 5, largely because he's a Celtic fan and has been linked with them every transfer window and he wasn't in our 18

O'Neill said the players not in the squad haven't done enough and you can never levy that at McClean. The bloke is the hardest worker we've had since Walters. Nearly every manager that has managed him here have all said that he never stops running and some have even said he carries on running on the treadmill after games etc

Good business though if we can keep Verlinden fit. Big risk that. From an injury POV it is yeah. But I also think Tymon as a left winger beats him on crossing, passing, shooting, decision making, reading the game defensively from the advanced position etc.
