Los Angeles for 2 weeks, and we are staying at the Hotel Menage also planning a couple of days in Vegas but not sure where we are staying yet, just using it as a base to get into the Grand Canyon.

Miss P
vegas is a good drive from the canyon (especially the south rim - which is the better side) or are you thinking of taking a plane / helicopter there?
When i was in vegas 5 years ago took a small plane to the canyon then a bus ride round various look outs. was very good. A friend has just come back from vegas and took a helicopter in to the canyon. Was pricey mind...

I think bus leaves Vegas around 8am and arrives in the canyon at lunchtime, then leaves around 7pm so its enough time there for us. Helicopters are pricey, and I cant justify it really so bus will do for me Besides, some great scenery to take in up that way.

If you're taking a bus you not thought of hiring a car? Be much quicker and you'd be more flexible to stop longer at the dam, canyon etc. Cars are less than £20 day and if you use www.airline-network.co.uk you can pick the car up from most of the main strip hotels (and some off strip)... and it's so easy to drive in the US! Well, that's my experience anyway!

Thats why we based in L.A so we could just hop on the Amtrack into town and down to San Diego etc, plus I only stayed in L.A for 4 days last time and it was nowhere near long enough to see everything.

If you're based in LA i'd say you HAVE to get a car! On my honeymoon a couple of years back did - San Fran, LA, Vegas, Palm Springs, San Diego (well, la jolla) and back to LA to fly home. Had a car for the whole time. It 's so much more flexible. The only bad place to drive is LA as it's so damn busy! But if there are 2 of you then use the car pool lanes and it's piece of cake. Personally I don't like LA. Been there 5 or 6 times, mostly for just stop overs. It's a big sprawling mass. Once you've seen Hollywood sign you're done well, venice beach is cool on a summers weekend. But i guess that opinions!!
