Best remembered for that superb headed goal against Man City at the Brit, where 10 men gallantly overcame the opposition 11. Of course it was actually still 11 v 11 as the home crowd was most definitely an extra man that day!

It was Beattie, I think, who was sent off the pitch by the ref to change his undershirt because it had white sleeves. Dunno why to this day, since our kit is predominantly white anyway, and quite a few Stoke players since have worn white undershirts.

He also didn’t do a horrific job whilst Manager of Accrington Stanley on the lowest budget in league 2 at the time and managed to keep them up. Now follows Gary Monk around as one of his coaches.

There’s a rule that says that undershirts must match the primary colour of the sleeves. The ref on that day must have thought our sleeves were more red than white!

I remember his goal against Bolton when he went through off a Whelan header, was one of the few strikers we've had in recent years who you just knew would his the net.
A not too lengthy, but incredibly important contribution.

Also best penalty taker I've seen for us. Pity it all went to shit in the showers at Arsenal.

Pretty much performed everywhere he went didn't he. Great player. Just remembered an amusing Strachan-ism about him though, apparently in Southampton training on the Monday after Beattie's underwhelming England debut, Strachan kept referring to him as "ex-England international James Beattie"

What fucking shite, to me modern football really is a load of fanny arsed bollocks, fuck all these stupid rules.
