it doesn't warrant the outrage you see here. Not a big deal at all in the scheme of things. His actions have had probably barely any impact at all on the lives of even those involved, who themselves have decided to make a big deal out of it because he's a footballer. Assaulting a police officer is not a big deal it is in England and I am pretty sure it is in Greece maybe not in Scotland. It’s not a big deal though is it? A criminal offence, yes. Big deal? Yes - but only because he’s a Man Utd and England player and purely because of that. How many pissed up lads go over to Greece and do the same thing? I’d imagine he wasn’t the only one locked up on Thursday, put it that way.

Agreed, it means that if Maguire, is convicted he will probably be barred from entering the USA and a number of other countries - which could be a big disadvantage for his future career.

Never seen Maguire as the stereotypical badly behaved footballer. He's always seemed pretty down to earth and a solid pro, if a little overrated. I imagine he will have very good lawyers.

Certainly it was the chosen destination for a large number of gay people a few years ago. Probably because of that it is now very fashionable and expensive with a lot of luxury accommodation hence its appeal to Prem footballers. I must admit it would not be by Greek Island of choice unless you escape the resort areas and go in land. The resort areas are about as far from an authentic Greek experience as its humanly possible to get! Agreed on all counts. On the gay question, I would guess the proportion of the population that is gay is more or less the same on Mykonos as it is on Canvey Island, Barry Island, the Isle of Wight etc. And indeed the same as in Stoke on Trent, or for that matter on the Oatcake.

"Maguire has assembled a top-flight legal team, composed of three Greek lawyers and at least one Manchester United club attorney believed to have flown into Syros on a private plane with Maguire’s father overnight. The charges are among the most serious in the Greek penal code." It'll be interesting to see how this pans out. I'd also like to know what happened in past cases where drunken British tourists punched local coppers. For all those on here saying it's nothing. He got pissed in a foreign country, and whatever the ins and outs of his altercation with other drunken British piss heads; he attacked local police officers. But, I expect as usual money will talk. Oh to have had a 'top-flight legal team' in Corfu in 1976. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/aug/22/harry-maguire-walks-free-for-now-after-syros-court-appearance-greece-manchester-united

The island of Siros, where Maguire was taken to, is a far nicer place and only about an hour at most away by Ferry. Tinos just to the north is also also fascinating and much nicer. Fly to Mykonos and jump onto a ferry to find real Greece.⚓️

If he's been fighting with a couple of pissed lads, it's really not a big deal, is it? Far from the worst crime ever. I heard that it all kicked off in the queue for the bus to Wetherspoons.

If you like reading a book, holding a cold beer, gazing into the Aegean and contemplating the meaning of existence, that is. Not a professional footballer to be seen, and barely a Brit either.

I’m amazed that no ones put the incident on YouTube yet. My son has just shown me a video of a bloke who looks like Maguire, scuffling with what looks to be a bloke in police uniform. The Maguire bloke does a rather nifty take down on the officer, before a couple of the latter's colleagues pounce. Someone on here will have it. You won't need to wait long. Whether it's actually Harry, I have no idea.

See they have worked their magic again and charges of alleged aggravated assault and potential bribery of a official are free to go offences
Not sure that Bob from Fegg Hayes on a lads night out would be granted the same Leniency .
As I’ve Said so many times no misery contemplated by mankind Is sufficient for the vilest institution that is the scum .

That’s what those people are there for My take on it is if you haven’t done anything wrong you won’t need a top brief to get you off. I’m very much along the lines of if you’ve Commited a crime you should be big enough to face the punishment. It’s a bit like that US ambassador who Allegedly killed that poor lad because of her manner of driving. Should she not face the music just because she’s an ambassador?

It is indeed but the justice system is supposed to see equality for all throughout the process and already this feels like the process is collapsing alleged bribery charges And police assault met with free to go and leave the country after all Plenty of convicted sentenced and jailed people have expensive lawyers

I’m sure everyone would get the best lawyer money could buy thats not what I’m saying but If I was the victim in such a case I’d be gutted if the person that twatted me was found not guilty not because he didn’t do it but because he got off on a technicality due to him having a hot shot lawyer I’d be gutted. It’s pretty gauling if you see the accused celebrating outside court with not an ounce of remorse even if they know they did it. I guess ultimately life ain’t fair.

Regardless of what happens I think he’s going to regret his choice of destination. I don’t think Gareth Southgate will be impressed. He seems to have pretty high moral standards.

What sort of pro footballer and a few mates spends £63k on food and drink in a bar in five hours. This includes loads of vintage champagne such as Dom Perignon which I imagine they slugged down like it was Country Manor without any proper appreciation of its properties. His club should get rid of him for that sort of behaviour. Slobs the lot of them.

I spend a lot of time in Greece and hate Mykonos with a vengeance due to to its rip off prices and lots of other things as well. But that is one hell of a bar bill.
