A train has derailed, rolled down an enbankment & burst into flames near Stonehaven. Just seen it on the BBC page it doesn't look good when you see the amount of emergency vehicles there let's hope for a decent outcome.

Looking at the images, one of the power cars that is in a ditch is just a chewed up burnt mess. Very nasty.

4/5 miles away from our holiday apartment near Inverbervie. Was out jogging on the coastline when the emergency service vehicles started streaming in from outside the area so it was pretty obvious something bad had happened. The weather between 0500-0800 this morning was horrendous, flash floods and terrible thunder and lightning.
Thank God it’s quiet up here and the commuter train was almost empty otherwise it could have been even more disastrous. RIP to the 3 confirmed dead x

Looking at pictures again, it looks like the top power car has doubled back on itself (presumably after striking the landslide). It then looks like it hit the remainder of the service.

RIP to the folks that have sadly passed, my thoughts to the families and all those involved With the recovery of this accident. The company I work for delivered an overhauled engine for power car 43030 two weeks ago. It was in Haymarket last week when I was up there .

Looks of landslides and weak embankments after recent rainstorms. Looks like scottish rail haven't been maintaining the network properly up there.
RIP to those who have lost their lives.

I bet all the heat we have had could easily affect the rails. The scenes are shocking and thoughts go to the families who lost their lives.

The rails in themselves will be fine, heat distortion in the track is a thing of the past due to continuously welded rail being laid across the national network. Landslides are an unpredictable nightmare.
