Northern Ireland star Taylor, 36, has been offered a two-year deal at St Andrew’s.

He has been linked with Liverpool recently as well, as their 2nd choice 'keeper. Obviously at his age he will want first-team footy though. I think he's an immense goalie and definitely better than what we already have - sign him up if possible.

i know a goalie can only be as good as his defenders allow him to be, but he didnt do very well last season did he? I'd rather go for fulop or nash. Maybe even get foster in on loan!

Everyone seems to be rather sure of Fulop's ability, indeed all the right noises are being made about him, but he has barely played at all at this level, are we sure he's all that great? Personally i have never seen him play.

I've seen Fulop play & would be very surprised if we could sign a better keeper right now.
Having said that Taylor has been a good keeper & character, would rather sign him than Nash.
if Nash comes in as a reserve/bench keeoer then fine.

Geography and first-team Prem football could very well put us in pole?
And he is a Bosman, which must be a factor for us.
If we are interested in him, wonder where this leaves the Fulop deal?
37 in September - but I suppose that's okay for a keeper.
A little bit concerned with the Blues verdicts though, despite some big guns being attracted to him as cover and his long Premier career.

Stoke and Coventry have joined the stampede to sign Birmingham's Maik Taylor.
Out of contract Taylor, 36, is unhappy with a two-year deal tabled last week.
Everton and Liverpool are also in the hunt - but the keeper does not want to quit the Midlands just to provide cover.
And free agent Taylor is now considering switches nearer to home with Blues managing director Karren Brady insisting the club will not budge.

11/06/2008 - Transfer talk: Maik could be taylor-made for City
Stoke's promotion to the Premier League has ensured they are being linked with a plethora of players in the national media.
So who has the rumour mill got plying their trade at the Brit next season? Read on to find out ...
Stoke are seeking a Taylor-made solution to their Premier League goalkeeping problem ... Birmingham City's 36-year-old stopper MAIK TAYLOR.
According to both The Daily Mirror and The Sun, Stoke hope to exploit out-of-contract Taylor's dissatisfaction with the new two-year deal he has been offered by the relegated Blues.
The Northern Ireland international is also said to be attracting interest from Liverpool and Everton, but Taylor is keen to stay in the Midlands and play first-team football - both factors in Stoke's favour. Coventry City are also in the hunt.
A move for Taylor could mean Stoke's hopes of landing MARTON FULOP, Sunderland's Hungary international goalkeeper, have been scuppered. Fulop joined Stoke on loan in February, but was recalled after just one game.
Stoke also appear to have missed out on a £1.4m move for Barnsley skipper BRIAN HOWARD, according to the Daily Mail.
Wolves and Bolton Wanderers are now leading the chase for the man whose goal saw The Tykes sink Liverpool at Anfield in last season's FA Cup.
Stoke misfit Shola Ameobi may inadvertently boost the Potters' chances of landing £1m target JON WALTERS.
The Newcastle striker, who was on loan at Stoke towards the end of last season, is wanted by Walters's club Ipswich and they have reportedly agreed a £3.5m deal with the Geordies.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis, said by the Daily Mirror to be keen on Walters, will be hoping Ameobi's arrival at Portman Road may help ease through his man's departure. A major problem, though, could be Ameobi's desire to link up again with former Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder at Norwich City.
The Sun claims Stoke are now likely to miss out on a deal for KEVIN PHILLIPS. The veteran West Brom striker, a free agent who wants a longer contract than the 12 months offered by the Baggies, has been offered a two-year deal by relegated Derby and now seems certain to accept.
Pulis has renewed his interest in Portsmouth striker DAVID NUGENT, according to both The Daily Mirror and The Sun.
Stoke were close to taking the former Preston hitman on loan towards the end of last season.
That deal fell through, but Pulis is apparently still keen to sign Nugent and is prepared to spend £4m to do so ... despite reports he currently earns £27,000-a-week.
Stoke are apparently battling fellow Premier League new boys Hull City for the signature of Danish defender MAGNUS TROEST, according to The Sun.
ANTHONY GARDNER the Stafford-born Tottenham defender signed by the Londoners from Port Vale for £850,000 in 2000, is said to be keen on a move to Stoke to revive his flagging career.
Stoke have apparently joined Fulham in the race to sign Rangers' £3m-rated French striker DANIEL COUSIN, while they are also said to be interested in Aston Villa's MARLON HAREWOOD. He would cost £4m, but is also interesting Fulham and Rangers.
Manchester City's SUN JIHAI is said to be heading for the Brit. The 30-year-old China midfielder is out of contract.
Also on the Stoke radar is Rangers striker LEE McCULLOCH, possibly for a fee of about £1.5m. Apparently the former Wigan man would like to return to England.

I really don't think we should be signing (almost) 37-year-olds on two year deals. Just because Taylor is 'experienced' doesn't mean he is a good goalkeeper.
Possibly better than what we have, and on a free transfer will leave us funds for signings in more crucial areas of the team (should any signings actually emerge!), but I won't be happy if this forms part of a Bolton-approach to Premiership survival, i.e. short-term, high wage, old players.

Disagree with the above- is far better than we already have. Fulop certainly seems to tick all the right boxes but folk seem to be getting carried away re a keeper we know little about.
Not keen on Phillips to be honest, need far better in the Prem

He always had that tag, and has looked pretty assured in my infrequent views of him - and the clubs who want him as cover seem to confirm that vibe.
Bit concerned at the criticism he seems to get on the B'ham forums though, representative or not.
And keepers can 'turn' in their late 30s. Foe every Zoff and James there's a Peter Shilton.
Although Taylor, to be fair, looks as fit as a fiddle.

Taylor turned in one of the best performances I have seen from a goalkeeper, when we played B'ham in the cup in the Boskamp season.

Yeah, he did well that day Rob. We should have scored but everything we threw at him he coped with (including that rasper from Hoefkens)
I wouldn't mind seeing him join up. He coped with being displaced by Colin Doyle last season admirably and ended up making the number one spot his own.
Is he quite the step up we require? Only time will tell. I have my heart set on Fulop and I hope we get the Hungarian but we cannot pin all our hopes on one keeper. If we miss out on him, we need a back up plan!

So 37 is too old for a keeper but the other week people were creaming themselves on here over a 39 year old centre half!
I've seen quite a bit of Taylor and I rate him. He makes the occasional mistake but his reflexes and foot work still look sharp. I've no recollection of ever seeing Fulop so I am not in a position to compare the two. I prefer Taylor to Simmo/Nash so signing Taylor would be okay by me.

The 3 times we came up against him recently he was excellent- clean sheet every time. Made a fantastic save v Fulham at the end of the season- good experienced keeper who commands his box, something we've struggled with keeper wise.
How old is Van de Saar?

He's almost 53, Soi.
As for Taylor, I've never been convinced. Has always been a bit flappy and nervous I think.

News 12/06/2008 - Taylor inquiry
by Michael Baggaley
Stoke City have made an inquiry about Birmingham City's out-of-contract goalkeeper Maik Taylor ... but they have yet to make a formal offer for the 36-year-old.
Taylor is one of a number of players City have been linked with this summer, but there has been firm interest from the Britannia Stadium in the Northern Ireland international.
Taylor's agent, Alex Black, said the player is still hopeful of agreeing terms with Birmingham.
He added: "At the moment we are in the process of speaking to Birmingham City trying to finalise a new deal.
"But there are a number of clubs that have shown an interest in Maik."
Although Black refused to name other teams interested in his client, it is understood the Potters are one of them.
Taylor has also been linked with moves to both Liverpool and Everton as a back-up keeper, but Stoke are hoping regular Premier League football could prove a decisive lure.
They are also believed to be interested in Sunderland's Marton Fulop. The 25-year-old Hungary international is under contract at the Stadium of Light, but manager Roy Keane has accepted it will be hard to hang on to the keeper.
Fulop is keen to play first-team football having struggled to break into the Sunderland team.
He was handed his first start of the season for the Black Cats in their 1-0 home defeat by Arsenal on the final day of the campaign, but he spent much of the season on loan - first at Leicester and then Stoke - as £9m signing Craig Gordon cemented his place as number one at the Stadium of Light.
Fulop has less top-flight experience than Taylor, but is highly rated by Stoke boss Tony Pulis, pictured left, who was disappointed that injuries at Sunderland meant Fulop was recalled before he could play a game for City.
Taylor, who has 50 international caps, has spent the last five years with Birmingham following a £1.5m move from Fulham. He has been offered a two-year deal by the Blues.
Meanwhile, Stoke's director of football John Rudge will be checking out potential transfer targets tonight when he attends the European Championship game between Austria and Poland.
He said: "There's possibly two or three other games we may have a look at, but we are not hard and fast on anything."
