So whats happening with that then? Im assuming theres been plenty of demolition, and now theres a lot of empty space thats been boarded off, which looks like a city centre eyesore, and is being used for fly tipping.

I thought short-term it was going to be a car park while an arena plan was made.
They were talking about residential when Realis held the land and concluded their shopping centre was fantasy. The Council may revert back to this if they deem the arena idea too controversial/gamble etc.
They will hold off for a while now with Covid to see how Hanley fares with other projects Hilton, Clayworks, Smithfield 3, etc. and to see if the retail side stays alive. The Smithfield 3 has been kept quiet with local media - passed planning but no details on who is funding it?
Their biggest headache is the children in care (1000) - was 3rd highest in England per child population, that they overspend on annually. Hence the big foster drive / promotion.

It'll just be another case of brown envelopes stuffed with cash being exchanged between the same councillors and the same execs from the same construction companies and then after a month or so work will mysteriously cease and nothing will ever get built.
And to think, some people say I'm too cynical.
