It's a very safe appointment but not one to get the pulse racing if you're a Bristol City fan. Really? It’s a fantastic appointment in this league.

If it’s true he turned us down, I wonder what he has seen at Bristol that he didn’t at Stoke? A tractor and some carrots.

Let’s wait and see, but I was surprised by the appointment. I had dealings with people at City a few years ago when they were thinking of building the new ground that didn’t happen and met Landsdowne Senior and Junior. The City fans I know are underwhelmed about Hughton but I fully acknowledge he’s a safe pair of hands. If he’d have come to Stoke I’d have felt the same but unexcited. Let’s see how they back him.

It's a very safe appointment but not one to get the pulse racing if you're a Bristol City fan. Hasn’t he basically been promoted everywhere he’s been? Apart from Birmingham, where he got the play offs despite Europa league and playing 62 games the entire season. He’s a very good manager in this league.

Agree with that, but he's 62 next birthday (hard to believe, isn't it?), meaning he's not likely to develop any further as a manager or adopt the latest methods coming into the game.
And considering he's replacing a manager, Lee Johnson, who's only just turned 39, you've got to wonder does anyone at that club ever think even in the medium term, never mind long term?
Btw, now that he's on the dole, you'd think Johnson would have time to change the photo on his Wiki page:
Unless he's hoping for a slot in the next series of Strictly

Anyway, Hughton isn’t confirmed according to Sky, who are also saying Robbie Fowler has applied for the job too, and the Brum job.

Top manager at championship level., his record speaks for itself. I’d of been happy with him at stoke when he was linked.

I’m hoping it all falls through at the last because he realises they aren’t going to back him with signing the experienced top championship players he will be seeking. It’s about time though that this city got itself on the footballing map, just wish it was the gas that got their act together though rather than the shitheads! BM

Safe is harsh when it comes to him in this league isn’t it? Fair in the PL but in this league he’s top drawer?

Hughton was phenomenal at Brighton, and doesn’t get enough credit for the job he did in turning them from relegation candidates to promotion winners.
Bristol are in a far better position than Brighton were when he took over.

Wonder if Hughton will end up at Watford? Yes possible but with their owners it would probably put him off

Cook's a good appointment but it's a bit of a comedown from Gerrard or Hughton. As he's going to be cheaper than the other two, are Brizzle penny pinching?

Cooks record speaks for itself Pretty good manager If you look at Wigan's MB in January the majority were calling for his head. Personally thought they looked a decent outfit but were conceding so many late goals. Be good for them. Was hoping would be Robbie Fowler as seen his coaching first hand

Sporting Life saying 1 hour ago he is now favourite to become the new Bristol City manager. But don't we have a thread saying that is Chris Hughton? Now I am confused!

Cooks record speaks for itself Pretty good manager His record is very good. He was always up there for me for our job, when Nazareth fucked off . It's worked out well in the end but Cook would have been a good fit here I think.

It's worked out well in the end but Cook would have been a good fit here I think. It would be another small step up the ladder for Cook. He’s making a very good case for a top job especially if he can get Bristol City around the play offs next season. Good luck to him I say. As long as Stoke piss all over him of course

Hughton being linked with Watford now as well. That'll keep him occupied until November I guess

Wonder if Hughton will end up at Watford? Will he be on a short term contract then? All Watford managerial appointments are a short term contract regardless of what it says in the paperwork GD

The only reason Cook isn't given more credit is because he's fat, bald and not much of a looker. He's been successful everywhere he has been and his recruitment on a budget is quite excellent, the Chesterfield squad that won League 2 which i used to watch included; Eoin Doyle, Gary Roberts, Sam Clucas, Sam Morsy, Liam Cooper, Tendai Darikwa, Jay O'Shea... Some brilliant players in there, really was.
