Butland, whos paying out for a keeper that makes mistakes pretty much every game. Marshall, as it stands is a better keeper than Butland, isn't he?

I remember being in a hotel room in Tokyo listening to commentary of how a 19 year old keeper kept a clean sheet at the Bernabau knocking Barcelona out of the UEFA cup (yes it was a wee while ago!). That keeper was David Marshal playing for Celtic. He, at the very least, has some pedigree. Nou Camp ? Or Camp Nou if you prefer 😉

And if you were born that same night, you are now of legal age to play the national lottery, get married, have sex and drive a moped.

Wish he was late 20's and not mid 30's but he's been decent whenever I've seen him play.

Anyone would be better than Butland, he is a disaster,
He will be impossible to sell

Butland has not been the keeper he was expected to be and that we hoped he could be. That is clear.
We have to manage the budget, under FFP, to take us forward.
If we can sell Butland for an acceptable transfer fee and clear a high earner from the books and replace with a cheaper but better keeper then at this stage of rebuilding it’s a no-brainier really. We cash in and improve the team. The only issue being to get a club wiling to make a suitable offer and for all to agree.
There are others we need to take a similar approach with and get what we can so we can rebuild.

No one will buy Butland the best that could happen is that he will go on a free and then we will probably end up paying his wages.

What a depressing thought. A keeper whose best days are behind him. I really hope this is just his agent putting pressure on Celtic to buy him quickly. Similar comments were made about Lee Grant. Firstly, I don’t think they were - the doubt about Grant was always whether he’d be good enough full stop, not his age (he was two years younger than Marshall). But also the circumstances are entirely different. Grant was only ever going to be an emergency stopgap for a season or so. He turned out to be better than we expected but then expectations were incredibly low.

When most were moaning, I told everyone what a good keeper he was and that he would be a good signing. Player of the season at multiple clubs before coming to us. Lee Grant was an excellent keeper before coming to is and he proved it.

His game has fell off a cliff and if we can move him on we need to make it one of our priorities, along with all the other big earners who are contributing next to nothing.

Nothing exceptional but no glaring weaknesses.

Or Camp Nou if you prefer 😉 I wonder when (if) Barcelona upgrade their stadium if they would call it the Nou Camp Nou. That would solve the confusion about what to call their stadium.

Sorensen was hardly young when he joined aswell mate...keepers get better with age.... an experienced Marshall and a young Bursik will do just fine.

Agreed. The biggest challenge is getting rid of Flap Butland. That Blondy kid from the youth setup is supposed to be mustard as well as Bursik.
