According to this dodgy babelfish translation job, the general manager of Catania is claiming that Ezequiel Carboni, a 29-year-old holding midfielder has signed for Serie A Catania from Austrian club Salzburg, in preference to Villarreal and Stoke? On the new purchase from the Red Bull Salzburg: "Carboni is strong, it is discussed of a middle best.
Likely the public at large does not know it, but between the employees to the intense activities rather is quoted and the hard competition shows it that the Catania beats to carry him home.
Above all the Villarreal, that will play the Champions League, and the English of the Stoke City.
We are satisfied of his hiring we hope now of to succeed to close also the’ other objective that we are trying to define. www.mondocatania.com/ct/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=3462&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

I've lost count of the number of defensive midfielders we've been linked with....
N'Daw, Muamba, this Argie bloke, Rudolph Austin, that Hemdani bloke at Rangers....

Yep it looks like this type of midfielder is one of our top priorities. Quite rightly so as well, Delap, Whelan and Diao may fit it to this type of player but I don't see any of those as definite starters next season. Centre midfield is hugely important and we are going to need a key player there who can win tackles and break up play.

Not if he gets injured before these 2 qualifiers.... It will still be a done deal, unless he ends his career ;D

No doubt the agreement's in place (and we even supposedly part-own him already, don't we?) but if he didn't play in these 2 qualifiers, he wouldn't be able to sign this summer, would he?
And despite noises to the contrary from his agent and O'Connor which suggest they've been told unofficially that it'll be okay, is any appeal 100% cut and dried?
Even though these 2 caps over the next 10 days supposedly take him past the 75% of competitive games in the 24-month qualifying period, doesn't Jamaica's current poor world ranking mean that, regardless, he will still automatically fail on the initial application, and will be reliant on any panel being won over by our appeal on the day?

Hes playing tonight, i knew and if he doesnt play the last game through injury, the appeal would be lodged, and we should win it.

Seems they have already played and won 5-1
Technical director Rene Simoes seems to have found a good combination and formation for the Reggae Boyz as they defeated St Vincent and the Grenadines 5-1 in an international friendly here today at the National Stadium in Jamaica.
Jamaica’s 3-5-2 lineup, included Donovan Ricketts in goal, Simon Ford , Adrian Reid and Ian Goodison defending, Ricardo Gardner, Demar Phillips, Evon Taylor, Rudolph Austin and Andy Williams in midfield and Marlon King along with Ricardo Fuller in the striker roles
Playing in front of approximately 15,000 spectators, Jamaica went ahead at the 17 minute mark with a nice pass from Marlon King to Demar Phillips who scored from a left footed strike. The Boyz kept up the attack playing with pace and determination that earned them 5 corners in the first 25 minutes.
The second goal came by way of Andy Williams laying off a nice ball to Gardner who was brought down in the penalty box. Penalty taker Marlon King stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 2-0, 27 minutes into the game. St Vincent tried to get their attack going by playing the long ball but they were easily picked off by Ford, Reid and Goodison who defended well..

The game at the weekend and tonight's game v Grenada are friendlies, aren't they?
Looks like the crucial work-permit qualifying competitive games v the Bahamas are Sunday and Wednesday.
Yeah - even if he got injured before the weekend, maybe the fact he was all set to play, had played all the friendlies etc would count very strongly in his favour.
But with their ranking being so poor, maybe it isn't quite a 100% done deal, unless we've been assured off-the-record that he'll get the green light if he can meet the 75% appearance criteria - as it seems we might've been?

When i spoke to Fuller down at training few months after the permit was turned down, he did state that, a deal has already been done, and he will be a stoke player once he meets the demands set.

With regards to Austin, the question has to be asked just how useful is he going to be for us next season? He has never played in a competitive league abroad so how can we expect him to be realistically challenging for a starting place in the premiership, the best league in the world? Demar has made the same step and couldn't get in our squad in the championship.
I really hope he proves to be a great signing but at the moment it is hard to picture him performing for us in the premier league.

Two defensive midfielders: Orlando Engelaar & Demy de Zeeuw would be excellent defensive cover. Surely we can pay more than Twente & AZ Alkmaar? They were fantasic keeping Italy quiet last night. But De Jong maybe out of reach as he is already at Hamburg SV.
