Stoke 69% possession, 22 attempts, 6 on target
Boro 31%, 8, 3
That makes a frustrating read giving that we lost the match.
It also shows how bloody wasteful we are in front of goal.
One other thing is giving the team selection was so bizarre and that the formation was all over the shop is how we had over twice as much possession as boro.
God knows what the numbers will be against wigan.

The possession stats are influenced by the difference in tactics, we took ages to build anything they took a couple of touches and sent it long to try to turn our slow defenders

You'd probably only lose with stats like that 1 time in 10 but we managed it yesterday.
No time for procrastination, quick dust down and move on to Wigan.

How many chances did Campbell have? He needs support, not plodders wasting chance after chance.

It's one of those classic examples of where stats don't tell the whole story. If you watched that game, you'd always say Middlesbrough looked the more dangerous and in control and you'd always back them to score rather than us. We were panicking and slashing at everything. They were measured, had a plan and methodically exploited our many weaknesses.
It also exposes another theme of this season. We seem to be conceding an awfully high percentage of goals per shot on target. I haven't got the stats at my fingertips, maybe someone else knows where to find that kind of information? But I'd be very surprised if we weren't amongst the top clubs in terms the percentage of goals we concede per shot on target. We need to find out why this is?

Because we have a rubbish defence and a diabolical goalkeeper. Out opponents don’t have to take many hopeful pot shots because we gift them easy chances. And on the odd occasion they do take a hopeful pot shot, our goalie stands still and watches the ball sail into the net.

McClean’s chance will account for at least 0.4-0.6 of that. He had a half open net and hit the keeper on the floor. Ince also to blame for bizarrely running over the ball.

Which also could have stupidly put McClean off. If he did call Ince should have just stopped not kept on running as it could have hit him

Can anyone find the stats for the percentage of opposition shots on target which end up as goals, and how our percentage compares to other clubs? I'm convinced we must be top of the league in that stat, and if not we must be very close. An awfully high number of opposition chances seem to lead to goals this season.

I'm also sure we had more possession against Reading too but anyone watching would have concluded that Reading were the better team and deserved the win.
