Fantastic save but all this greatest save ever stuff is such a ridiculous cliche.

Fantastic save but all this greatest save ever stuff is such a ridiculous cliche. Think the whole debates of the best ever are what make football the game it is. Some will say Yashin was but I'll go for Banks purely on Stoke and England. As for the greatest save, it surely is just because of the occasion and the fact it was Pele. Didn't Banks himself say his penalty save against Hurst was his best ever ?

Our focus as Stokies is inevitably Banks save. But the save was one part of one of the most compelling thrilling football matches ever played. That tackle by Moore. The goal was a lethal combination of skill accuracy and teamwork. I’m trying not to mention Jeff Astle

Fantastic save but all this greatest save ever stuff is such a ridiculous cliche. Why is it a cliche and it's certainly not ridiculous. 6ft of 32yr old keeper travelled the full width of his goal, got down and got a full hand on a powerful downward header from the greatest player of the time, pushed it up over the bar in a World Cup game against the greatest team of the era in the rarified air and heat of Mexico in June. Pele has always said he was convinced he'd scored.I've watched it hundreds of times and in my 56 years I cant remember a better one . If we can also claim it from one of own I'm totally happy with it being called he greatest in history.😊

Superb footballer.

Fantastic save but all this greatest save ever stuff is such a ridiculous cliche. Whenever there’s a ‘best saves ever’ compilation the Banks save is ALWAYS there, without question. Surely that says a lot?

Surely that says a lot? Doubt pele ran off celebrating too many times and then turned back to see the keeper had saved it. Pele called him the "the blue phantom" and said when people met him they asked him about the Banks save. Confirmation for me.

But Pele, great footballer as he was; has come out with a lot of shite over the years.
