Manchester Evening News seem to think so... PAUL Scharner looks set to stay with Wigan Athletic and could sign a new extended contract later this week.
Boss Steve Bruce is confident Scharner will remain at the JJB despite strong interest from rival Premier League clubs Fulham and Sunderland.
Talks with Scharner remain ongoing but Wigan have still checked out potential replacements should a deal fail to materialise.
Bruce's assistant Eric Black has checked out the Rennes central defender John Mensar. Bolton and Blackburn have also been linked with Mensar but Wigan have been initially put off by a £7m price tag.
Wigan have also checked out Charlton's highly-rated defender Madjid Bougherra.
Another possible option open to Bruce is EK Athens defender Socrates Papastathopoulos.
Meanwhile, Wigan's England striker Emile Heskey is still being linked with Portsmouth. And Antoine Sibierski is a target for his former French club Lille and Norwich City.
Bruce certainly tends to be active in the transfer market and is strongly linked with Swansea midfielder Ferrie Bodde who has handed in a transfer request.
The Latics boss is also planning to bring in an extra keeper following Carlo Nash's move to Stoke.www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/wigan_athletic/s/1053331_scharner_looks_set_to_stay

No doubt it is a deal that has been put in place and is 99% to go through but perhaps Nasher is on his hols or something and nothing can be signed and sealed until his return?

I wouldn't have thought Nash would be signed as our number one, although you never know?
So if we sign Fulop or AN Other , will he want to uproot just to move from third choice to second choice?
If so, obviously it's goodbye Simo

I can't see Nash moving from number three at Wigan to be number three at Stoke.
Like you say, it appears we are after Fulop and if we miss out on him, we will no doubt go for another first choice stopper?!
With this being the case, Simmo will be demoted to number three. Will he want to stay? I know that he does wish to stay but surely not as third choice. He is currently in Turkey and will be sitting down to evaluate his future on his return
I'm sure these signings will be sorted out when players do return from their holidays

Didn't Nash say it would all be done by his agent before he buggered off with his missus to write their travel book?
