Same here, I don’t like Queen but I enjoyed the film more than I thought I would. Watched Stan and Laurel last night and can’t for the life of me understand what the fuss is about, thought it was incredibly boring👀 To be fair i loved Stan and Ollie. I thought Reilly and Coogan were superb. Having said that though, i have fond memories of them showing Laurel & Hardy regularly back in the early 80s when i was a kid, so i'd imagine some of my enjoyment was based on nostalgia more than anything. Oh yes I thought the acting was very good and the sets, camera work etc. Just left me a bit cold. Kind of a “is that it” feeling.

Did bohemian rhapsody this morning enjoyed it. However, now trying figure out if it was the sound track or the film that was good lol. As a non-Queen fan (so the soundtrack does nothing for me), i had a similar quandry although my confusion was based more on was i impressed by the film or just the staggering looky likey-ness of the cast to the real people. I eventually concluded it must be both, as i don't even like Queen but was gripped anyway. I do agree they were all very good casting choices which in fairness usually makes the film better straight away. I’m a big queen fan and do remember live aid when it was on (I was 7) not as in being mesmerised by the masterful control of the audience by Freddie just the event itself. To end the film there was probably the best choice after the casting, it’s a performance that live sets are all now benchmarked against. A performer and a performance at their peak at the same time at an iconic moment watched by over a billion people live. Obviously there was Queen after then but signing it off there keeps it at the pinnacle there was nothing they did after then what would ever top it. The little in joke with Mike Myers saying no one would headbang in a car to bohemian rhapsody was a really good in joke as well. Planning on a curry and another first watch later so will be perusing amazon and Netflix in a bit for options.

The Deer Hunter is worth every minute. If you really want to, you can probably watch it in three sittings as it does sort of split itself into three chapters. Whilst i agree personally, it is one of those films you have to be in the mood for before watching, as if you just try to dip in and out of it/watch whilst playing with your phone (because it's so long) then you'll get lost. It's a commitment but one most will be glad they made. Yes, you’re right. I sat down one morning in lockdown last year and committed to putting the phone away. Maybe one for the evening with a few drinks but it really is worth the three hours. I love anything about blue collar America and tend to like things with a slower pace, so the first hour completely engrossed me. Then the change of scenery and tone keeps you there. De Niro and Walken are fantastic of course. The story about John Cazale is remarkable too. Apparently he shot the film whilst suffering from terminal cancer and died before he got to see a final cut. Him and Meryl Streep were together off-screen as well which adds a bit more sadness to it. Anyway, I really don’t think you’d get a film of such quality and length in the modern day which is why I respect is so much.

Watched zero dark thirty again tonight for about the sixth time 🤷♂️ Strangest thing about that film is they had to rewrite the film as bin laden got slotted as they completed the screenplay and got it green lit. So instead of it being about the failure to get him it had to be about getting him.

Totally bored with TV I ended up with Brad Pitt on Sony movies some crap WW2 film called FURRY.
Did I get this wrong.?
An awesome film portraying the reality and brutality of warefare.
I strongly recommend this film. If nothing else it will make you respect what our previous generation did for us.
We should never forget or fail to respect..

Finally got round to watching "Nae Pasaran", wonderful film/documentary about the Rolls Royce employees in East Kilbride who refused to repair Hawker Hunter jet engines that were being used by Pinochet's dictatorship in Chile. Wonderful, principled men with a strong sense of injustice, definitely worth a watch......

Watched Trial by Fire on Netflix last night. True harrowing story of a father sentenced to death for killing his 3 children in a house fire. Main character played by English actor Jack O'donnell.

Watched 'Capone' on Netflix at the weekend - its fucking awful and advise to leave well alone. There's barely any plot to it and, apart from Tom Hardy shitting the bed, he basically just shuffles around drooling for 2 hours.

Wild Tales, an Argentinian film. Was (I think) on Film 4 recently, so should be on catch up. It's 5 or 6 short films end to end with the common theme of how quickly things can get out of hand.
Green Book - brilliant.
The Front Runner and LBJ, Two good political dramas.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is very good, starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds. Dolly got nominated for a Golden Globe Award for best actress (Comedy or Musical)

Well I’m the past 14 days I’ve done Joker - highly recommended forget the comic connections it’s a good psychological thriller in the taxi driver mould Blood shot - 😂😂😂😂😂 Bad boys for life - decent enough but a sequel that wasn’t needed. Zombie land double tap- see above Justice league - the Snyder cut, completely different film really enjoyed it and worth the four hour watch due to the much better character developments and depth to the story it’s not just Superman saves the day like Whedons cut Hacksaw Ridge - watch it superb film

Did a couple of Korean films Train to Busan: Penisula. Not connected in anyway to the first film just set it the same world, standard zombie action. First film is a cracking character driven film this is rinse and repeat action. Brotherhood. Brilliant Korean War film as good as any Hollywood war film

I watched Once Upon a Time In America last night. Clever film really gets you thinking, although wish it was kept to its 6 hour length and split into two movies like it was originally intended.

Just finished Netflix's "Age of Samurai" 6-part documentary. Recommended, excellent graphics, costumes and reenactments. The landscape is beautiful and the fighting was brutal. I may have to look up some books on Japanese history down the road. I remember my uncle had the book "The Rise and Fall of the Japanese Empire" but I believe that only deals with WW2 era Japan.
