Unfortunately it still goes on as those at Diusburg last season saw there are individuals who still look for opportunities to cause trouble. I saw two incidents at that game that sum up the mentality of humans the first was being subjected to a shouting pissed up knob calling all the stoke fans c#nts for not joining in singing with him, men, women and children. The second involved a match ball secreted in a fans bag and when asked for it back on the way out they completely intimidated the guy and gathered around him including some very large man mountain of a bloke thus allowing said ball to be taken. And as a result we were not allowed back into the lakeside bar we had been in pre game the reason given " hooligans" Sad but true... There were Duisburg lads in that bar mate despite us all trying to get in there That was a twat of a walk back to the station or tram to take us back to Düsseldorf though in that heat

I look forward to the next one touch wood....

Ironically it could be said that Heysel indirectly contributed to the Hillsborough disaster. Following Heysel English clubs faced a long ban from European competition and in an attempt to appease EUFA and control the hooligans the government of the time and FA agreed to caging in terraces. The result was that this decision ultimately killed 93 Liverpool fans. 😢😢

Not buying the 'every clubs fans did it' narrative. Liverpool fans were worse than most. My old man mentioned them marauding through Burslem before a game against the Vale in the early sixties. Climbing up Wembley walls, getting into grounds without tickets - even nowadays, never see the aisles in the away end when they come to Stoke, all standing up in the Kop every game (the irony as Hillsborough was a key reason for all seater stadia). How people can blame anything but Liverpool fans for Heysel is beyond me. By the same token the focus for Hillsborough should be about the state of that ground, fencing etc., yet its not been has it? It's been a witch hunt against the police for the past 30 years. Keep kidding yourselves that only one of the disasters had a guilty party all you want, but anybody who was there in 1985 knows the truth.

Nobody is suggesting Liverpool fans on the day were totally innocent. But there were other factors which contributed to the scenario. Also, plenty of clubs had plenty of dickheads back in them days. You rightly point out the layout of the stadium was a factor at Hillsborough. But why overlook the condition of Heysel?

'Liverpool fans were worse than most' The fans with the very worst reputation were the Scots - that's changed - Man United fans were probably the worst in the 70's Stoke fans absolutely can't cast aspersions on other fans behaviour either.

The police are responsible for the hillsborough disaster that is fact.Everybody outside on the street in lepings lane could have fitted into the ground safely also a fact.By early evening on 15/04/89 police cheifs and people high up in the government thought well weve killed all these people, but hang on they are only poor working class football fans we will say it wasnt us it was them, papers fed lies articles published people took it in.i can remember reading the sun, thinking no one will believe this shit but people did,the biggest mass slandering libelling miscarriage of justice ever, but only the people of liverpool wouldnt be silenced and fought and won justice they are truelly remarkable rip the 96 praise and love forever for the families, one of which are from meir

We arrived really early and stood behind the goal in Hamil Road end. Just before kickoff there was an almighty crush from behind as 100s of Liverpool fans broke down the exit gate. We were only youngsters and I can remember being lifted onto the pitch by a police officer as the crowd behind surged forward. That one second in time has done more than anything to convince me that caged terraces were a killer. Every cloud has a silver lining and we watched the game sat on the edge of the pitch. One fan was killed when he got onto Railway Stand roof and it gave way.

Just from personal memory, during the 1980s as a school kid I never really felt threatened by Liverpool supporters in the Victoria Ground. I used to stand in the Boothen Paddock with my dad in those days, and when Liverpool were in town they’d be all over the ground. I was always more worried by the usual suspects Leeds, West Ham etc.
