Many of the things you're referring to are part of the ebb and flow of supporting any football team. Do you think we're the only ones who've lost games in the last minute? Or lost FA Cup ties to non league sides? Really? We are the only one I care about In tbat cade you come over as a spoilt brat mardarse.

After we won at Derby in the 70s the two greenhoff goals I seem to recall if we won the last three games the title was ours but we blew it certainly I recall going to Sheffield and seeing us blow up at Bramall lane Sorry. You are wrong (again), we didn't lose the last 3 games of that season either. After we lost at Sheffield Utd (which was no great shock as they finished level on points with us and were as good at home as we were), we drew the last 2 games. We still had 9 games left after we won at Derby. And just in case you were going to try with 1991/92, we didn't lose the last 3 games of that season either. Wasn't around then but weren't we wracked by injuries?

He actually "wasted" very little, as most of them were frees. Sam Vokes. Not a Jones signing. Yes he was signed under his watch, but it had already been prepared by the Scholes Gang.

Fair enough we didn’t win any of the last three which what’s what cost us but I accept your correction of course But again you are rewriting history! The one advantage of what is going on at the moment is that there is plenty of time to dig things out and I still have my old programmes along with my Oatcakes in the spare room. When we kicked off at Sheffield Utd the League table was as follows: - Derby P39 Pts 49
- Liverpool P39 Pts 47
- Everton P39 Pts 47
- Stoke P39 Pts 47
- Ipswich P38 Pts 46
So we were in a 5 horse race and if all those 5 teams won their remaining games we would have finished Champions 5th. We must be the only team in history to be in that position and not win the League.

Wasn't around then but weren't we wracked by injuries? Benji rewriting history 45 years later needed challenging for the benefit of those who weren't there. As I mentioned in my previous post, there were another 4 teams who could have said "if only...………." Yes. We did have an unfortunate run of injuries to key players. Alan Bloor only played twice all season because of a bad knee injury, Terry Conroy missed over half the season with various injuries before coming back to finish with 9 goals in the last 8 games, John Ritchie broke his leg 9 games into the season, Jimmy Robertson broke his leg on Boxing Day, Mike Pejic broke his leg on February 15th against Wolves and then Denis Smith broke his leg in the 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich the game after we won at Derby. When you consider we only used 18 outfield players in the whole season, that represents a significant proportion of the first team squad. Personally I always felt that losing Denis for the run in was in the end the difference. Alan Dodd and Eric Skeels did a great job but neither of them were dominant centre halves or leaders on the pitch and neither of them were capable of the desperate last gasp tackle or flying clearance or mayhem in the opposition penalty area that Denis could. At the end of the season there was probably a general feeling of disappointment that we hadn't quite managed to get over the line but until Benji's post I didn't realise that there were any Stoke fans who thought we had blown it big-time. Most people I knew thought it was a great base from which to mount a serious title challenge the following season, but that is a different disappointment.

Talk to the player they believe we blew our best ever chance Alan Hudson says so in Huddy and a number of local lads Have said the same I’ve heard Terry Conroy say with hindsight they just for the approach to the Sheffield United game all wrong . It’s ironic that a City we quite love visiting has our tie biggest missed opportunities

He's still a young manager learning his trade,it didn't work out well for him here but I hope he does well but not until after we are safe.

Nearly 50 and doing that, goodness me.

Felt a bit sorry for him. A man clearly out of his depth and desperately struggling to the point of a breakdown. Looked an absolute wreck towards the end. Good luck to him I say
