I always wanted him to be played at right back. I saw an article the other day suggesting this too and it made me feel ok to say it out loud again. Seen Becks live for England 7 times as every time he got the ball where he looked to hit a cross everyone was excited. I feel if around 20 years ago Trent Alexander Arnold would be playing the Beckham Role, my favourite non Stoke player right now.

And how if Beckham was playing now, he probably would have been a right back. I always wanted a quick player out there and it was usually SWP I don't even care. I think it would have made us a better side. And depending on what day of the week it was, I wanted Beckham at right back, in central midfield or on the bench.

Behind Ronaldo, the best footballer I have seen live.
Magic in his boots.

Behind Ronaldo, the best footballer I have seen live. Magic in his boots. Unfortunately the one time I saw Ronaldo was the WC Final v France. Zidane was fantastic that night though. Saw Ronaldinho for PSG and tough to beat his performance that game.

Still some question marks about Alexander Arnold defensively (only some and he's young) buy yes from an England point of view his delivery is similar.

I think he was underrated as more often than not he played in that right wing/midfield position where the best players have always had pace to burn, a trick or two and can beat a man. That was never his game, as he used to affect matches by drifting infield and using his sublime passing skills - putting balls & crosses in almost instantly at times. Cracking player & always seems quite humble. As someone else said above, the only player I’ve seen live who could hit a better long range pass was Gullit at Chelsea. Hoddle was even better My favourite player by a mile when i was a kid

My favourite player by a mile when i was a kid I always liked this Hoddle goal. This cropped up when I was looking for that goal. Some nice old footage at The Vic.

Going off the subject a little, but in my younger years when we were away, I’d go to the odd Vale match with my Vale loving Uncle, (feels good to get that off my conscience 😅). At that time they had a midfielder by the name of Ray Walker who the natives reckoned was a poor man’s Glenn Hoddle. He very nearly came here under Mills, and to be fair he was a good player. Would have been interesting to see him play for us. I think we ended up with Ian Scott instead...

Good player yes, but what that clip shows is a guy who is totally one footed, who, when given time and space - which he is on almost all of them - will hit a particular type of pass very accurately. 80% of those are pretty much the same pass repeated.
Great player ?... not for me... and the petulance he showed when man marked cost us dearly in the world cup. Against the one nation I cannot stand.

Walker was bereft of ideas and Vale were beaten

There were one or two in that Vale side who might have done a job for us. I remember Sproson being linked to us and think he would have done a job for us. Vegas lad as well.
