He may of carried a bit of weight, but Tony "Zico" Kelly was a very intelligent footballer, got a great pass on him!!! One of my fave ex Stoke players.A bit more discipline and he could have gone so much further.

He may of carried a bit of weight, but Tony "Zico" Kelly was a very intelligent footballer, got a great pass on him!!! He had his best spell during the glorious winter. Heavy pitches meant his pacelack wasn't so prominent. That was a good period, unbeaten in 3 months, but the 7-2 thrashing of Leeds days before Xmas, winning away at Barnsley on boxing day, beating Sheff Utd 5-2 t home THE FOLLOWING DAY , and beating Shrewsbury at home new years day, all in the space of about 10 days, spider scoring in every game, was the pinnacle

I remember getting to my Dad's car after and couldn't feel my hands all the way home. Were so numb I couldn't unwrap my Star Bar.

This period was right at the start of my 'Stoke career'. Happy days.
Random players that used to stick out around that time, for no particular reason - Saunders, Heath, Berry, Dixon, Shaw and wait for it....Cliff Carr.
Many happy memories in the Jaton Family Stand tucking into a bag of Burtons Fish and Chips.

Phil Heath had plenty of pace but little control but was Stokie through and through and a really nice lad. I knew him socially and his brother Steve. Phil married Rachel Thorley a decent squash player from the Tollgate and I think he still lives in Oxford or thereabouts....

That run was spectacular. But when it was over it really was over. A shuddering halt. Afterwards it felt like Mills was trying to re-create it.

Cliff Carr saving a goal bound effort at Elland Rd...and the ref not seeing it Still, the locals weren't happy & gave us a donation of bricks/bottles & other masonry whilst waiting to leave after.

A police horse farted in my face after that game. I dunno what they were disgruntled about they won 4-0. Cliff got away with a useful handball against Newcastle the season after.
